Sign of the Times?

I recently purchased a case of toilet tissue for the shop. Yesterday I went to place a new roll on the holder. Noticed something odd about the new roll, and at first, I could not for the life of me figure what was wrong.

Then it hit me, the new roll seemed narrower. Said, to myself, nah...just dreaming. Took the old roll's cardboard middle section from the waste and measured it. Sure enough. Yes, I'm that anal.

The old roll measured 4 7/16th. The new roll, 4 inches.

Now I don't know why this bugs me so much, but it does...pay more for the product and receive less. It's a friggin rip off. Sign of the times...yes, in my humble opinion.

Quilted Northern, by the way. Buttholes.

  1. Everything now days seems to be getting smaller, the food we buy, the cars we drive, money we spend. The only thing getting bigger is government and their egos.

  3. Break out your measure again, because it also seems to me that the tube's diameter has been increasing as well. The roll looks the same, but has less paper...

  5. You know what, just boycott them and don't buy any more. Use your bare hand like Iraqi's do.
Just kidding, That seems the way of the world now, same as 'Blue Rhino' propane tanks only selling you 16# instead of 20# of gas.

  6. I guess the narrower rolls make for better storage. Maybe.

But you aren't supposed to catch on to the smaller size. That how they keep the sheeple at bay.

  7. Buttholes, heh.....

Your blog is excellent; I just stumbled on it recently - keep up the good work! Your granddaughter's a doll, I can see why you're smitten :)

  9. Most of the stuff you get for a business is also really thin. The stuff we have at work now it so thin you end up layering it yourself just to keep your hands clean.
If it's not too thin, it's too rough.

If I wanted to wipe my ass with newspaper I would get a subscription to the local daily.

Can't win when it comes to poo

  10. Ours went up about $2 for 36 rolls, but hasn't really shrunk...we use Charmin, and buy in bulk at Sam's Club.

Max, do you work at the university I do (and went to)? I swear, you either risked splinters, wet hands, or both with that stuff.

  11. Craig, I sure it has, and thanks.

    PioneerPreppy, yep, ripoff buttholes. Thanks.

Duke, I'll just break out a phone book...

Mudbug, I suppose so, and the sheeple keep on keeping on...thanks.

I'll be right back to finish in a couple hours.

  12. Duke, I DIDN't know that about Blue Rhino, I'll have to check it out. Stephen, I don't care if it is a rip-off. TP is one of my splurge items, I insist on the best quality paper, not that slick, splintery type! I'll save a few pennies somewhere else, but NOT on my TP!

  13. HankH, thank you, Sir. I'm happy you've found us and sincerely hope you'll return often. Reach over and hit that 'follower' button when you get a chance. And, thanks for the compliment, my Little Bit is my heart.

A Kitchen Witch, I'm not sure what the price increase is here, but it's surely up there..thanks.

Max, very true. I normally purchase mine from Costco but didn't have the time to make the trip, so grabbed the first paper on sale...thank you.

    HH, I'm a Costco man...thanks, Splinters...that's funny.

Swamp Dog, kinda that way myself...and Duke's right, Rhino is another rip off. Thanks.

  14. In all fairness with so many out of work and eating less the turds are smaller and less frequent which justifies the smaller butt wipe.

  16. Y'all are about to make me buy a micrometer! It's a joke but not a bad idea.

  17. CoolChange, truthfully, it isn't a bad a idea in the sense every purchase you make now has less product, a higher price than the last purchase. Check out your coffee.....

    Thanks.

  18. I love carmex in the little buckets, keeps for years. I bought a couple new ones since they were on sale yesterday. Got them home and opened the package. A dimple on the bottom left half as much in each little bucket. HALF! Same price tho. The kids complain that their chip bag is half empty not too. Again, same price as the old size of course. Another reason to prep, saving money in the long run :P
