In My House

I gave birth to this blog. It's mine. From inception it was intended as a gift to my grandchildren. I welcome all readers/visitors with an extended hand, and I hope, a warm smile. When a visitor enters my home I say,  "Please, have a seat and I'll pour the coffee."  I extend the same warm hand for this blog.

When one enters another person's home, and accepts their hospitality, it's rude to spit on the rug or leave tinkle stains all over the toilet.

Now I'm quite aware Southern hospitality and etiquette can be extremely difficult to understand and isn't practiced, for the most part, in other areas of our country - but common sense should be...it's all I ask.

Do not use foul language, please, when you leave a comment on my blog.

There is a very good chance my eight year old granddaughter will stumble upon it. Foul language, curse words, are normally spewed when one lacks a working vocabulary. I should know. As a young man decked out in my dress blues, draped over a bar or table with my fist filled with a bottle of beer I could cuss a blue streak. Yet, when in the presence of a lady or my elders, the rain of terror came to a complete halt. So I do understand. Class tells...

Thank you.

Stephen

  1. And isn't it a shame that we have to tell people that, these days?

    1. Yes, it is a shame. This morning I awoke to find a comment that kinda rattled my cage. At first I wanted to ignore it...but after careful consideration hit the 'ole delete button. Thanks, my friend.

  2. wouldn't that be reign of terror?

Although if they came down fast enough rain might work as well :)

I try not cuss when typing. I have found verbally it can put the right emphasis in place but typed out doesn't seem to work as well.

In the old days you could stop cussing in the presence of a lady because you knew when one was around. Not so easy to tell these days sometimes.

    1. Nope, I rained cuss words. My reign of young ignorance and foul living has ended...though it did take my lovely wife several years to snatch my crown off my noggin....

Indeed, my friend, the ladies in our lives have a way correcting our awful manners. Thanks, my good friend.

  5. Not only the fowl language issue but to show up on someone's blog and start bickering over every comment the blog master says or his normal followers have to say. That very often constitutes being a troll. I personally have better things to do than constantly argue with others.

Disagreement is good up to a point when done in the proper spirit followed by good manners and proper decorum....and where supported by the blog master.

Constant arguing (unless endorsed by the blog owner) is poor manners and is just as wrong as going from blog to blog publicly bad mouthing other bloggers.

Stephen I appreciate what you had to say on this subject and the way in which you conduct yourself on your blog and how you leave your comments elsewhere.

  6. I was taught manners, as are my children. Weather it is writing on a blog, Facebook, or letters to another manners is important in life. Way too many folks lack manners.

    1. I find it easier to not use foul language when typing.

I do have an etiquette question. Are you to not leave a comment if your opinion is different? What if that's a matter of information? How does one know where or what to look for to correct ones ignorance?

I know that is more than one question, but it all boils down to how does one correct the above without being labeled a "troll"?

Foul language is foul language and for the most part agreed on throughout the country, but how to start and carry a constructive informative conversation is not.

      Just my two cents

    3. PCG, my dear, you may leave comments either in agreement with or not...there are no set rules other than profanity, on my blog. You, set the rules for your blog. All comments are welcome and I try always to respond to both negative and positive comments. It isn't required people agree with me.
Trust me, you are far from ignorant. Pull up a seat, I provide the coffee. You are now among friends.

      Thanks, my new friend.

  7. I was here a minute ago. Then, suddenly, Google threw me to another blog, then, like Dorothy and her red shoes, I was tossed back here and there's a new post! I don't drink. I don't do drugs. So if your feed shows I've been here 10 times, you now know why.

    I'm leaving again......

  9. dear sweet one - i have absolutely nothing to add to your post...except that i think of Matt as a little brother - you know the kind - they drive you nuts but you just gotta love them - bahahahahahah! oh poor Matt. thanks Stephen for putting some very serious words down for people to follow. but i've always called you a proper southern gentleman (Duke and Senior say otherwise - oh i just can't help myself tonight) - but this is a very important post for everyone to understand that this blog is for your grandchildren. period.

    your friend,
    kymber

    1. Thank you, kymber. Shame I had to write this post. Guess it ticked someone off as I noticed the day after my follower count went down by one, even though I didn't point my finger. Neither Duke nor Senior hold the class I have in my little finger....
