Edit Work

Allow me to say, screw it. I'm a very fast typist. Really. I can whip out a few lines in seconds.

It was brought to my attention by Sweet Wife this past weekend that I suck at edit work on my blog posts. She is forever catching my mistakes. A dropped word here, a missed comma there. Well, excuse the heck out of me.

I'm a very impatient man. Just ask my friends. For instance; some knucklehead will begin to tell me a story of his day, or life, or something, and I jump in with, "Get to the it, what's the bottom line." Bore me to death.

I hate to reread my post. There, I've said it. So, if you find I've forgotten or in haste dropped a 't' or a period, deal with it.

I have a business to run.

Sorry, Honey.

Stephen

  2. Rev. Paul, just kinda ticks me off....wife called and said, "Hey, I found another mistake." Great day, give me a break.

  3. Nobody likes to be corrected, Stephen. Don't worry so much about it.

I don't "edit" Odysseus's blog unless I'm reading over his shoulder while he's writing. I don't "edit" anyone else's blog, either, unless they're my student and their blog is totally unreadable because of bad writing.

  4. I get the same thing on those rare occasions when The Queen reads my stuff.

  5. Welcome to this side of the fence my friend. On this side we type and hit the Publish button and never look back.

  6. HH, thanks. The post, in truth, was very tongue in cheek...teasing my wife.

Shepherd K, my Sweet Wife works in the bond markets, it's very much part of her job to find mistakes...and she's very good. Bugs the heck out of me. Wives I suppose are all very much alike. Thanks.

    MDR, that's me to a 't.'

  7. Everybody's sensitive about someone else pointing out their typos. We may be many moons past our 20 year reunion, but somebody points out a typo and WHAM ...you're suddenly 13 years old and your English teacher has bled red ink all over your homework again. Some things just take ya back!

Yeoldfurt and I were both technical writers in our lives past and sometimes we ask each other to read our posts before they're published. If we are ASKED to read it, we know the other one wants to know if anything is amiss ...and we are steeled for that possibility. But we always read each others posts too and seldom if ever point anything out after it's published. If it's a glaring problem, I might ask him (or he might as me) '...if I see a typo, do you WANT to know?' Sometimes the answer is yes, sometimes it's no and we just go from there.

  8. teehee..i'm with Rob! but seeing as how i edited SOP's, speeches, reports and annual reports for years...and the fact that jambaloney was a technical writer...

on our blog we say SCREW IT! we won't use caps nor proper grammar! it's our way to stick it to the man.

oh and Stephen - maybe if i were reading your blog from an editor's point of view, i might find a bunch of mistakes. suffice it to say that i have never seen a mistake because i am not looking for them...and if you missed a word then your context was complete enough for my mind to fill it in without help!

honestly - when it comes to our blogs it's like writing to a diary that 100 or so+ people read. and i don't think any of them care about your sentence structure!

    all the best buddy!

    your friend,
    kymber

  9. HH, no sweat, you had a good point.

HossBoss, lucky lady you..to have a proof reader. I'm left swinging in the wind. Thanks.

Rob, ugh, okay....I think..thanks. Oh, I get it...rolling on the floor laughing your butt off...gosh, I'm so...

kymber, thanks...I'm still very sensitive about my bad writing...see my tear sliding down my face. Thanks, Sweet Lady.

  10. I'm just anal about my writing. Always have been. That being said, it's someone's blog and they can do it how they please. Now, THAT being said you're one brave (I hope) man for posting that one. I don't think I could stand the heat that would generate if I did the same.
