Resiliency

Then came the morning after.

  1. That morning after was, in retrospect, a breath of badly-needed fresh air: a spirit of resilience, of patriotism, and of determination.

Too quickly, the politicians began posturing ... but that will not change my resolve.

  2. Before this day I had not seen this country pull together and work as one one.
Tis a shame we did not maintain it.

  4. I radioed Joe "Return to Headquarters." When he did, he grabbed five of his men, got permission from the Mayor, and left in his Command car. Once in NY, the police escorted them to the site and they spent days digging on the mound. Smoke, dust, asbestos, chemical smells, and they kept digging. In real life that "hill" was 4 stories high. Every time one of the men would find something (be it a shred of clothing or a toy from the top of someone's computer) all the machinery would stop. The operators would get out and stand in silence while the firefighters handed the object, one to one, down the hill to the Salvation Army Chaplain. Then the machines would fire back up and the digging continued. No bodies were found.

Joe came home with a nervous breakdown and cried constantly until he got help.

Every year after that, the news media would be in our yard to ask Joe the same questions and I would put a dedication on my blog.

I just couldn't do it this year. This nation has been brainwashed into believing the Trayvon Martins are more newsworthy, and still Joe cries over the television reruns of 9/11.

But THIS year, the TV coverage was far and between. But Zimmerman had a fight with his wife and it's all over the news.

I'm getting sick of this country, sick of people, and sick of life.
