Bah, Humbug

Today, as you all are very aware, is the first day of summer.  Ah, yes. Watermelons, Independence Day, back yard cookouts, iced tea, and beautiful ladies in their bikinis - what's not to love.

Well, in fact, summer. I hate it. Bah, humbug. Tell me of its wonder as the season rolls into August when I can step from my cooled home into our garage and within fifteen seconds you've been turned into a puddle of sweat and your very breath could light a fire.

Okay, the girls in bikinis and the fireworks aren't so bad. You can keep the rest....

  1. You forgot to include predatory native plants that can cover a chain link fence within a week.

That's what's fun. Cleaning a fence row, sweating like a whore in church and enduring 95 degree temperatures......don't you love summer?

    1. Good point, Jess. Vines, cling to everything in my yard. I'm forever jerking 'em out of the ground or spraying the Roundup.

  3. In a perfect world, summer is here in NH and winter in FL on a boat. I'm working to make it happen.

  4. Summer heat is not my favorite thing, either.

Not quite as bad here in Kaliforniastan as back in Illinois, as we don't have the humidity.

    1. I too remember summer in California. Then, I remembered I lived there....

Hope you are well, and thanks, my friend.

  5. Summer in Alaska: choices range from "75 & sunny" to "55 & rainy", but no stifling heat, humidity, or bikinis. Can't win 'em all, I guess.

    1. Hey, no kidding....how can one live without bikinis. Well, I'm sorry but that kills any chance of me moving to my dreamland. Shucks.

  6. Unless someone is paying me, you won't find me in the South in the summer. Love me my mountains.

  8. Stephen,

I'll trade you our summers and winters!!!

The lovely 117 degrees in the summer and zero and negative numbers in winter.

    1. No thanks, Pretty Lady. It's tough enough here as it is without dust storms. Besides, we have beaches. A bare winter beach is sad...

  10. I'm in Florida. This means the seasons are reversed. I stay indoors June, July, and August and maybe a little extra. I picnic in winter when it's 75 with decent humidity, not July when it's 5,000 degrees and 345% humidity. Most northern transplants never catch on to this simple truth. They have heat strokes trying to do their outdoor activities in the summer, simply because that is what they always did. You gotta be some kind of special dummy to go out in this heat and claim it's fun.
