Early Morning Ramble

Still cool here at 38 degrees. I love it.

I arrived at the shop early this morning. On the ride here I was shocked to see we'd had a twenty cent increase in gasoline prices. Bugs me as I need to refill my trucks tank.

Stand by as I jerk another cup of coffee.

Ah, better.

Six geese just shot their way over the shop cutting the air hard on a southerly course. If such had happended in my youth I'd have been outside with a shotgun barrel pointed in their direction. Now, I just smile and admire. They make such beautiful music.

Okay...I've taken advice, from you dear gentle readers, and have ordered a new laptop. I went the Sixbears route and did an online order from Wal-Mart. That, was a hard decision to make as I'd sworn to never ever again purchase from those folks. Ah, isn't life a cruel mistress.

With his advice in mind I tried to order the lowest priced laptop on their site with the features I need but in the end chose a model with a slightly higher retail price. Seems the inexpensive models lack wi-fi.

Still, this new computer only set me back half the price of my Dell laptop - happy happy me. Half, mind you. My new computer is the HP 655 (C1B96UJ) with a 15.6 inch screen.

Anyway, whoop-tee-do...big deal.

I just use the darn things to write and surf. Long as it works I'm happy. Okay, did I screw the pooch or do well in my choice?

When I spoke of the price to Sweet Wife - the next day, she smiled and said I remind her of Hetty Green. I'm sure many of you know of this gentle and kind woman. Bet you didn't know she's my hero. Love the old girl. By the way if you haven't as yet read her biography, try and find a copy (not easy) and spend a rainy day with it. Very good read. Actually there are two bios but the one I like is titled, 'The Witch of Wall Street.'

Some have said, unflattering of course, I'm tight with a penny. Don't believe them, even if you do see me out and about searching the sidewalks and parking lots for Lincoln's image.

Some have asked....

Yes, I've only recently finished with the mind altering medications. Thank you. I feel so much better.

God bless you all.

Stephen

I think you did well on your purchase. Even I swallow my pride occasionally and shop and Walmart, though I feel dirty when I leave.

Go spend the difference you saved on the computers on more silver which is priced fairly well at the moment.

  3. For those who may take offence at my Walmart swipe, I hate shopping with people who wear pajama bottoms for pants, women who wear open back tops and show off their bra strap, and people wearing shirts with their gut hanging out over the top of their pants.

  4. I'm glad you're feeling better, Stephen.

Re: the laptop, I purchased HP laptops for both my daughter & myself, and we've had zero problems. I love mine, so I'm thinking you did well. Got both of mine at Office Depot when they were on sale.

    1. Thanks, my friend.

I like the HP...it'll take a bit to adjust to its keyboard and feel. So far, so good.

  5. There is a gas station by my husbands shop that sends us emails prior to a price increase. He's a private station owner and wants to let his customers know when the fuel companies are going to raise their prices. We got word from him 2 days ago that we could see up to 20 cents increase by the end of the week. Time to fill up! He also lets us know in advance when the prices are going to decrease. Nice guy!

Great job on the new laptop. We have Dell's at work and have had such bad luck we are never going to buy another one. I have an HP laptop and it has done a great job. Enjoy!

    Blessings,

  6. I watched a flock of low-flyers the other day, honking and flapping their way North....

    Yeah. North.

I watched them for a bit and then shouted at them, "RECALCULATE THE GARMIN, YE DAFT WULLIES!"

Fortunately, no one else was around to witness my goofyness. :)

I'm not gonna budge on the Walmart thing. Not passing judgement on you for doing your business there, or anything. Doesn't make me love you less :)

The way I see it there is somewhere else for me to buy every single thing that I've ever bought from Walmart - and the price break they offer often isn't so sizeable that I can come close elsewhere (or even beat it). Just means I have to do a little more legwork to find a bargain. Same applies to Dicks, CTD, etc.

If I can't give up a little convenience for the sake of my principles, then what chance do I have standing up against the grinding force of the Federal Government when they ask me to yield to their will once again?

    1. I agree with you on Wal-Mart...I don't like the place and often refer to it as a third world country. I bit my lip and did indeed forsake my principles for a lower cost...shameful.

      Thanks, my friend.

  7. Thats what my husband recommends to family and friends, it will do what you need and you are not out that much money. I had 3 Wood ducks at my pond Sunday morning. Got the camera ready. . Dead battery. Errrrr. . . Walked out there anyway and what do I see? A Feral cat and a big one at that. I just yelled Goooo goooo dam you Go! My husband ran out from the house. "What is it?" he asks. I said "I am declaring War on any Feral cats that go near this pond. Its for ducks not cats. "

  9. Hope it works out for you -especially since you went with my idea.

I've observed there are two types of geese. Those magestic birds that fly long distances, singing a song of freedom. Then there's the other geese that just hang around all year and poop in the park.

Perhaps they are not unlike some people???

    1. True, we have both classifications of geese...year round puddle poopers and wild, just like some people I know.

      Thanks, my friend.
