This Old Gun

This pretty piece belongs to my good friend, ShooterSteve. I thought you nice men and lovely women would like to try and identify its make and caliber.

Above, the small handgun used for size comparison only.

Above, look closely at the hammer. See the pin.

The first person to identify the pistol gets one big 'attagirl' or 'attaboy.'

Have fun.

Stephen

  2. It's a looker, whatever it is, and seems Peacemaker-esque - but I don't know, either.

  3. .44 rimfire? The hammer/pin looks like my 22lr revolver but the loading gate photo shows that's not what it is.

  4. Based on Odysseus' guess, Heritage has a Rough Rider .22Lr that is supposed to look like the SA Army.

  5. Herbert Schmidt Ostheim, german single action pistol? My Grandpa had one a long time ago, it was a .22lr I think.

    1. Joe, you're half right. Still need a brand name and caliber. As you well know, the German's made handgun for many different 'stores.' Not a .22.

    2. Hawes .357 or .45 colt, Grandpa said he bought his at Sears.

    3. Joe, warmer. Correct caliber between the two.

    1. Warlock, you are very close. Big hint, think old well established sporting goods store. They once upon a time mailed catalogs. Out of business for many years. Thanks, my friend.

    2. Thanks Stephen. Racked my brain for a while and then you mentioned the catalog. My father in law and one of his buddies both had one.
