It's Early

Very early and I've turned the sign to open on my business door as the sun barely peeks from the clouds. I'm not joking when I say business is good prior to Christmas.

I wanted to post last evening but I had a dinner with my group. We all took over the local Cracker Barrel and made the place safe for normal people. It was nice. I have been privileged to have such good friends. It was necessary for me to leave a bit early and return home as Sweet Wife and Little Bit were making preps to leave early this morning for an out of state visit. My job was to check Sweet Wife's vehicle tires, top her tank, and load gifts for their journey.

Now, I'll sweat until their return, after all, two of the people I love most in this world are on the roads. Rest assured there are two GOB's and protection loaded within that Accura MDX. Still, I'll worry.

Sweet Wife and Little Bit baked for two days, solid. Much of those baked goods are loaded. This morning I stole a half-dozen cookies for the shop. Don't tell on me.

Until later.

Stephen

  1. I know first hand how hard it is to sleep while a loved one is away.

  2. After you left early the guys started to talk bad about you, I told them I didn't want to hear it. I always speak up for you because I know you do the same for me.

  3. MDR, it's a fact indeed. Thanks.

Duke, my friend, that was nice of you. I do the same for you when you're absent. Nice to know you had my six.

  4. I'll worry the whole time until my daughter gets here from Baltimore tomorrow night...The fact that folks are grown ups doesn't stop the fretting.

  5. telling you not to worry is not the right thing to say, so i will say try not to worry too much! and don't work too hard and don't eat all the cookies or Sweet Wife will kill you for sure!

  7. Ok, I'll probably have an, "Aww, Crap! I knew that" when you respond, but what is a GOB that you mentioned above.

Sorry just feeling kinda ignorant today..

  8. ProudHillbilly, we're much alike...thanks.

kymber, I had to sneak those cookies I plan to eat...and, I'll still worry like hell. Thanks.

    John, thank you kind sir.

Matt, GOB, get home bag. Kinda like a bug out bag but smaller. I used old surplus military rucksacks. I keep one in each vehicle and two in my wife's car for when I drive it we're both covered. Weapons and ammo too. This time of year I also include two wool blankets and sleeping bags. Water is a no brainer. Thanks.

  15. Stephen, we all worry about our loved ones. My wife always worried about me just going the 120 miles round trip to work.

Now days with all the tourists here in Florida from around the world, I worry even more.

  16. Stephen - hope all goes well with tthe trip and the family out of town. I know how the empty house feels - my wife is on the road to various conventions during the year. You never get used to the empty house. Sounds like good prepper work there - especially if she knows and understands whats in the bag and how to use it. Best of luck and hope you hear from her from soon!

  17. The GOB is a good idea. Maybe you should of snuck some extra cookies for home. I also fret and worry when Kathi takes off any where. Even if it is just to go shopping.( I'm whupped, and love it.) Oh well. Glad that business is good right now.
You and yours are in our prayers.

As well as all of you others out there. Be safe! Watch your six. And have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  18. Rob, very true. My wife must drive a very long stretch of lonely backwoods roads to arrive at her mother's home. I worry about everything. Thanks.

JC, thanks. Oh, she knows how to use the 'get home bag.' I've trained her well. It's nice to have you hang around...please, make a habit of it.

Flier389, thank you. I wish everyone would make up a get home bag and keep it in the cars and trucks. It would save many lives. Yes, business is good. It's the after season slump that worries me. Thank you for the prayers. We all need them in this day and age. And, a Merry Christmas to you too.
