Why

The question I ask myself whenever I remember my Remington 760. Why did I sell it. It was a private purchase back about 1976 that brought her into my life. We walked many miles together in Washington State, Idaho and Montana. She dropped deer, elk (once two with crossing shots) and was deadly accurate.

I shall find another but it must be an older model, wood smooth with years of careful handling, the blued metal reflective of its age. I like old. Old is indicative of craftsmanship.  Old will get the job done. Old has class.

She's out there, waiting for me. I just know it.

  1. Stephen, I inherited my first rifle. It is a Remington lever action .308 with a simple Nikon scope.
After many, many years and new rifles that have come and gone in my collections, with all the bells and whistles, I still wonder why I purchased any other rifles! It is the most accurate and reliable of any of the newer models and everytime I drop my target, I say a little prayer for the great man who had the foresight and love to leave her to me.

I sincerely hope you find another one, if for no other reason than to calm and put your mind at peace with your error, as to why you could have ever sold that rifle to begin with.

It could have much worse, it could have been the love of your life that you let go....
That would have been a real mind bender!

  2. I know how you feel Stephen. Although not in the same class or sentimentality area I let myself get talked into selling my early production Mini-14 back in the early 90's and I have been kicking myself for ever since.

  3. It's mine and you can't have it. I think mine is even a bit older than that one. Still in good shape.

Don't you know it's a sin to sell firearms?

  4. Notutopia, Oh, I've done that too. The error of youth. Thank you for the kind comment.

PioneerPreppy, there are always firearms we've let go that in hindsight make us feel like idiots. I can think of at least four I should have never sold. Thanks.

Sixbears, mine too is older than the picture I posted. Hold it close, they are fine rifles. Thanks for the comment.
