Bits & Pieces

I like this magazine cover. It has a lot going for it, a reflection of time, and a pantry full of canned goods. The magazine isn't bad reading either.

If you bloggers haven't tried Google Chrome, do so. It seems to me (and I'm no expert) that it loads graphics on my blog a heck of a lot easier than Firefox.

An old customer came in today and he appeared worse for wear. After a few minutes he related how he'd lost his job and home. He and his family are now living in a shipping container. You've seen those large metal boxes used for shipping junk from China, like that.  His brother-in-law set one in his backyard for this poor man and his family (wife and three small children) to live in while they try and regain some sense of order and dignity back into their lives. If this isn't a reflection of the times in which we now live, give me a better example.

Please, get ready. Store some rice and dried beans and canned meat. Get out of debt. I know, easier said than done, but try. Remember, there is a big difference between a need and want. Get those fifty pounds bags of flour and sugar. Stock your shelves with canned vegetables, water is a must. Got protection? A handgun, rifle, shotgun, .22 critter getter and a stack of ammunition? Time is precious and I'm sorely afraid were rapidly nearing the end, and before you know it your federal reserve notes will be worthless. Give it some thought, please.

Take care,

Stephen

  1. I've been going back and forth between Chrome and Firefox. Chrome really does seem to render pages faster and you can even get a free version of Angry Birds to play. What's not to like?

Online security. I was reading over on Borepatch's page where Google's security has been seriously hacked. I also remember reading (and I've forgotten where, unfortunately) that in and of itself, Google isn't secure. It tends to nose around your computer and get into things.

  3. I knew I forgot something on my first comment.

I looked at Google's photo sharing program "Picasa" by chance recently and discovered not only the photos that I had uploaded to my blog, but also other photos that I had NEVER uploaded.

I suspect that it was due to using CHROME, although it could have been Picasa. Either way they are both Google products.

    Beware.

  5. Good post bubba. I do think time might be short before we have some sort of meltdown, personally I have my bet on a world wide depression.
BTW, Do you always keep the Glock next to the canned goods? I think I would find a more secure spot.

  6. Duke, my friend, thank you. You know good and darn well I have guns all over my house....such silly questions. I agree on the world wide depression, and it's in the early stages as we speak.

  7. Are those all pickled eggs in that picture?

I have food, water, ammo, bullet launchers, canned goods, candles, etc. I feel good about the amount of stuff I have and it's only getting better.

I also have debt but that's fine. I can't pay for my house any other way and what little other debt I have is revolving so they can't really do anything about it if I stop paying. Better to know how to have debt if you have it.

  8. Max, yes on the pickled eggs. Good for you on the preps...just keep plugging along...we all have debt. I too have a mortgage, but that's it, and it's enough to keep me awake many nights. Zero is best. Debt eats dollars, dollars lose value, soon it's gonna take a wheelbarrow of those worthless dollars to buy a loaf of bread. Thanks for the comment...see 'ya soon.

  9. I got $100k in student loans (wife went to out of state college) as the lion share of my debt. If SHTF, I think the Dept. of Education will disappear and I won't send the checks in anymore.

  10. Stephen - excellent post! we are feeling pretty safe right now but always thinking and planning for the future - we are in a small community of lovely people, our only debt is our mortgage (and it is pretty tiny in comparison to the mortgage we had in the city), we are gratefully in a position to pay it off in a few years and we are prepping, storing, growing, fishing and hunting. we also have several friends who raise amongst themselves our dairy needs and free-range meat (chicken, pigs and beef). we wish everyone could be where we are!

thank you for these type of posts. something is coming - we all know it - and the more of us that are ready and prepared the better for all of us.

please everyone - prep, store, prep, get rid of debt and find a place to escape to!

  11. Mudbug, I agree. When the 'day' arrives, forget the loan.

Anon, you are welcome and thank you. Keep prepping.

  12. Good post. I'm thrilled the wife has been serioiusly inquiring about a small child appropriate prep kit. I'm lending all the help I can while she's interested to get it done.

  13. I don't like the changes I'm seeing from Google Chrome. Over 50 years of age--and don't like Change! And the hook up with the E-mail is not very safe. Have changed to Yahoo mail because they are more secure, with a sign in seal and SSL-Secure Socket Layer Encryption. This means your password is more secure in transit when you check in. I'm all for that, because I have already been compromised from this mess. My husband puts me on there to research the problem and check things out to the fullest.
