Something to Think About

I know I would. Will you?

  1. Nope. Don't think I'd do that. I'd live on nuts and berries and plants before I could do that. Heck, I'd sacrifice a living family pet before I ate something that's been dead that long. Now, if I witnessed it happen and knew the animal just died or was about to...

  2. Interesting question. I highly doubt that post-SHTF there will be many dead deer on the side of the road. I believe anyone “lucky” enough to hit an animal will instantly clean and cook it. However, living in an alpine desert, there will be few chances for that kind of harvest.

On the other hand, if I didn’t know when the animal was hit, I would probably feed it to my dogs. Otherwise, the community would get a meal on me.

As an aside, the google ad on the bottom of the screen when the video was playing was for the Colorado Culinary Institute. I wonder if they have a roadkill class?

  3. KW, if I or my family get hungry enough...yes I would. I've been in places in the world where people, without a second thought, would jump all over that meat.

Mudbug, sure makes a fella think, doesn't it.

  4. Oh, folks in Colorado are known to have 'roadkill' on their menus, it's called the Blue Plate Special.

  5. I'm originally from Louisiana. Everything on the menu was roadkill. My mom hit a dear on the interstate and the local, parish, and state police raced to the scene to fight over who got the kill. Someone behind my mom stopped and beat them all to it.

  6. Can't even look at the video.

On another topic, Stephen, may I save a copy of the picture on the right sidebar, the one where the little girl is asking her mommy why they can so much? I have an ongoing joke with a friend about me canning Zombies.

  7. Mudbug - it's a shame to waste good venison.

Kris - yes you may and any other picture you want.
Still, you should watch the video...

  10. I would like to take the this time and show my Redneckism, Yes I have done it. I hit it of course so I know when it was killed.
And what a great ad to pop up while the video is playing.

  12. MDR, many years ago in a state far away I was behind a log truck that whacked a nice mule deer. As I am of the kind that always has a firearm in my truck I was able to stop and finish putting the poor critter down. Mule deer is fine eating.

Michelle, see, you've proven you are a very intelligent lady. Keep your husbands knife sharp.

  13. been there done that-was glad it didn't hurt my car, but it was kind of hard picking it up to put in my trunk..didn't bleed..internal injuries I guess, but ended up making BBQ out of all the meat! Good eating and tender!
