Breakfast

Most mornings my breakfast consist of nothing more than a dried tasteless granola bar, accompanied by a good cup of coffee.

For some unknown reason, this cloudy Saturday morning, I want this:

A perfectly fried egg.

Need help - okay, take your pan and place it over low heat, throw in a tablespoon or two of butter (real butter, not that yellow vegetable oil) and cover. Yes, cover the egg with a lid. Set your timer to three or three and a half minutes.

Slide it from the pan and enjoy.

Or, better yet, place it atop a nice juicy steak.

  1. I get my corned beef hash fried up nice and crispy, then I turn the heat down, crack a couple eggs over the top, and cover it up.

    Time to hit the kitchen, that is one good-looking egg you've got there.

  4. I love eggs too! I miss farm eggs, but my folks are planning to get chickens once again so hope springs eternal.

    I rotate my favorite style of eggs. Currently in first place is taking a large slice of sourdough bread, cutting a circle from the middle with a canning jar lid, butter both the "holey" bread and the circle you cut out on both sides. Fry in a pan with an egg cracked in the hole. Flip over when the white is almost set for over easy and a few seconds later I'm in heaven.

    A little home made jelly on the round doesn't hurt nuthin' either :)

    1. You know, Bubba, when I was younger and camped with my father he fried eggs using the same method you just described..and, I miss those early mornings with him and his breakfast toast. Jelly never hurt anything...thanks, my friend.

  5. Interesting way to fry an egg - however having said that, I've never fried an egg in my life. I prefer an omelet .. for which I'm discovering the microwave is very useful for.

  7. There's nothing wrong with a fried egg, and I can eat breakfast any time of the day or night. This morning was scrambled eggs with a thick slice of fresh-baked bread, slathered in marion blackberry jam, and big cup o' coffee on the side.
