Feathers in My Gravy

Today a nice older gentleman walked into my office and gave me a package, a heavy bundle, and it was cold. Its currently tucked safely in my little refrigerator's freezer.

This next weekend, Lord willing, I shall fry a mess of nice South Georgia plantation Bobwhite Quail. We'll have grits and gravy and homemade biscuits too. Of this I'm sure - I shall make a pig of myself.

Three pounds of dressed quail and grits make a fine dinner. I don't even care if I get a stray feather in my gravy.

Ya'll come.

  1. That's not fair.

    Sounds good, though.

    1. Hey, I willing to share....see what happens when you vacation in a foreign nation like Hawaii. If you guys were down here you'd of had a nice dinner.

  2. The roosters are starting to call here now. I wonder if I am gonna have another fluffy ping-pong ball family with toothpick legs in the garden this year.

    Nothing beats some fried quail.

    1. Fill the pot, Bro. Just don't thin the flock too heavily. You need breeding stock for next year.

  5. What's a few feathers, just add more gravy. But if you don't have time for cooking them up, you can always send priority to my house. Don't want them to get freezer burn. ;-) Enjoy!

  6. I have always enjoyed quail with biscuit and gravy. Mmm! Sometimes ya gotta dodge the shot and feathers though!

  7. We feed a large covey of quail every winter here. Survival food at its finest! In town quail have a regular route of folks that feed them....they are round like footballs.
