Goal Zero, for Vicki

Here she is Vicki. The little Goal Zero sits atop our kitchen table as she soaks the rays and zips life back into my portable power pack.

As the sun sets I'll adjust the panels.

She's upside down but will do the job either way. A very simple device.

Highly recommended.

Stephen

  1. They work great, as you said. I love mine for charging Kindle, cell phones, whatever.

    1. And it fits in my bag. Light as a feather. Great minds and all....

  2. I thought about buying one but then I charge all my stuff like that off my panels on the shop roof anyway so it's basically the same thing. Still as a back up it would be a good idea.

    1. It travels with you. I tried to take my roof panels off to tuck in the truck but the darn things were just too heavy...and those batteries, well, never mind.

  3. Nice! I've got one about half that size... they DO work!

  4. Thank you, Stephen. That would be perfect for my needs. I will definitely look into getting one. I have three windows that face due east, so that should work. I love this blog thing, where friends take the time to show you what can be done! It is appreciated. And by the way, I loaded up my Kindle and took it for a test read this afternoon. You were right. I love it!

  5. I had looked at this on the web once, but didn't know anybody who had one. The reviews were good, but it is always nice to have a friend give it the OK. BTW, that lantern in your header was just like the one my folks had, and somewhere along my life it disappeared. It was beautiful with all that chrome. Wish I knew what happened to it.

    1. The Goal Zeros are quite nice and handy, and dang important when the power fails. The power pack, and small tube like object, can even be recharged with a vehicle power supply port, what we used to call a cigarette lighter. Shame about the Coleman. Seems to me many priceless pieces, old memories, fade away unnoticed. Thanks, my lovely friend.

  6. Mom picked up about 15 of the small 1.5 volt solar panel battery "tenders" at a yardsale for about $20.00 and I have used them to recharge a low/jumped battery during a sunny day. If you look around those little panels go for about $25.00 each retail.

I added a little battery jumper pak/air compressor to my backup power system that can be recharged via DC power and it has a 400 watt inverter built in along with a USB outlet. I have run a 12volt DC fan over 48 hours straight without recharging.

    1. I've yet to find any solar panels are solar packs at a garage sale. I should just break down and order a larger Goal Zero package. Thanks, my friend.

  7. I just purchased one of the Goal Zero Power essential kits; the Nomad 7 Panels and the battery pack/charger. So for I've been really impressed.
Charged a fully depleted MP3 player in 6 hours; same as the fully depleted 4 AA rechargeables. And that was me leaving it flat on a table outside, no adjustments for angle.

Woot.com has been running deals on them; about 55% off. Just picked up another one. This one with rechargeable speakers (MEH) instead of the Luna light stick. That light was bright and on a full battery pack lasted over 8 hours.

    1. Thanks for the Woot link. I'll check it out. I want another package and even mentioned it to the wife yesterday...caught me by surprise when she agreed. Thanks, Bob, and come back anytime. Pull out a chair and visit for a while.
