Time to Lock and Load

I believe I've had two separate shipments of precious metals stolen in transit. Each dealers website tracking numbers indicate delivery status.

I'm pissed.

Before I begin to raise hell with the United States Postal Service I shall kick back with a cup of coffee and wait until today's mail arrives. My mailman (screw political correctness) is a nice fella, and I'll not give him grief, but his boss should hide.

Perhaps there is a lag between when 'delivery' is posted and the actual physical drop off of the package, but when one shipment is marked delivered on the eight and my calender reflects the eleventh, I get suspicious, especially when I was here the ninth.

Did I say I was pissed....well, I am.

I have a new friend and follower. Thanks and welcome to Matthew Forte. Matthew, I promise to always reply to your comments, so always check back. It sometimes takes me a few hours or days but rest assured I shall answer.

Again, thank you and welcome. You are now among friends.

Now, please excuse me while I clean my piece. For those of you not familiar with gun culture terminology, never mind.

  1. Hey, Bubba been there and done that with the USPS. That time was a mistake when I accidentally choose them instead of big brown ( UPS )

Did they forge your name, like they did with me? They even admitted that the delivery guy forged my name and I couldn't get anywhere. The police wanted to arrest the guy but the USPS refused to turn over the info on him.

    1. Matt, whom do you trust in this life, damned if I know. I'm happy to report one, just one, package arrived this morning. My mail-dude did say there is a lag in report of delivery and actual drop off.

  2. Good luck with that. I've used a p.o. box for years just for that reason. Pain to stand in line but worth it to me.

    1. An actual post office box is a good idea, but unfortunately many dealers will not ship to postal boxes. Not all pc sales require signatures upon arrival but most do insist on pen to pad. Thanks, my friend.

  3. Hate to say it, but I hear a lot of that sort of thing with the USPS in FL. Hope things are quickly resolved to your satisfaction -with or without gunfire.

    1. My postal guy has asked, in the past, what the contents of, in his words, 'was in the little packages.' I just said, 'stuff.' Makes me nervous.

  5. Sounds like the mail service in South Africa too. I ordered an item from Amazon on the 5th February, and only received it on the 9th March. Reckon I should be grateful that I DID receive it...

  6. USPS does that to us here in Anchorage, too, but usually on Amazon shipments. They'll report to Amazon that a package was delivered on x date, but we don't get until x+1 or sometimes x+3 ... or longer.

But your missing shipments are bit more critical than a book here or there. I'd be ticked, too.

  7. We had the money orders for our mortgage payment, electric payment, the insurance on the car and a few other payments the husband was mailing out stolen a few years ago. The one time he got lazy and popped the payments into our mail box instead of taking them to the post office they got stolen. I'm sure the red flag was like an open invitation.
Hopefully your precious metals are more easily replaced than our payments were, it took us months of red tape and hoop jumping to recover the money from the money order people.

  8. I ordered something on-line last year and the company shipped it UPS. Then UPS turned it over to the USPS in Chicago. When it didn't arrive as expected I used the tracking number and that is when UPS told me they handed the package off to the USPS so it was out of their hands. The UPS employee told me the USPS may hold all those shipments until they could get a large enough bunch together to fill a truck coming in this direction! I thought WTH? I have never heard of UPS handing off a package to the USPS before or since!

  9. The lag is usually the other way around. Delivery, then later it's updated. I've also gotten deliveries from UPS handed off to USPS for delivery. It's getting hard to say which way is the safest for delivery of anything valuable.
I've had horrible luck with insurance claims with the USPS. Hope it goes better for you.

    1. Stephen,
Thanks for your kind greetings. As a newbie in the silver gathering business, what's the best way to get started?

    2. Matthew, I could spend the rest of the day in answer to your question. First, read. Google is your friend. Second, buy silver...silly huh, but seriously many people get caught in the trap of 'collecting' silver. I don't care how fancy, artistic, the piece of silver is presented don't purchase on emotion. Silver is a hedge against inflation, nothing more, at least for our purposes. Always stay current to the spot price of silver...keep the price in mind when you shop and understand there is always a commission...or profit to the dealer. I invest in silver rounds and bars...not collect. It's nice to collect but do so with the thought in mind the metal is an investment so if you pay far more than spot you'll need to hold the investment for a far greater period of time or take a loss. Remember, when the dollar dumps (and it will) you will own true money, value. Take care. And don't forget to study. Read.
      Thanks.
