How I finished dinner.

I was worried I'd not have cornbread for my stew but the power came back online just in time. Guess I'll look into one of those old Coleman ovens for future blackouts. Cornbread is important don't 'ya know.

  2. Yes it is, that's why we need to cook some on our next overnighter. Like the dutch oven idea with intellectual conversation while it bakes.

  3. Cornbread sounds good, even after finishing our dinner an hour ago. "Baked in a dutch oven" sounds even better.

scots are gaels too! they just pronounce and spell things differntly. but it's still all gaelic buddy!

my island is made up of brits: scots, irish and english. i consider all of them my inhertance.

    3. kymber, as a child I remember reading of Bannock in Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, and the now defunct Sports Afield. Old timers baking the bread over their campfires in Dutch ovens. I wanted to taste it so bad...
      Thanks, dear lady.

  5. Important? How about required? We love our corn bread around here. With meals, as a snack, breakfast, or when ever. Kinda like biscuits.

  6. Oddly enough, I found a battery operated lantern in the garage last night that Stud had bought ONE YEAR AGO and never tested. I gave him the sermon on being prepared. He loaded 47 D-cell batteries, and.....it doesn't work.

Can't use it. Can't return it.

When I make cornbread, I use sugar, onions, red sweet peppers and a little corn in it, and I make two skillets full and freeze half. It freezes very well.

    1. Remember, back up to a back up to a back up...rule of three...never forget it.

Now, listen here, young lady...such stuff should never be placed in a good Southern cornbread...
