Snowed Under

Sorry for the silence. I had a weekend filled with grandchildren and family and the written word was but a dust particle on my mind. Now, it's taxes.

The bad part is when my mind gets wrapped around taxes there's little room for anything else. Here it is officially my day off and I'm at my office soon to have papers scattered all over my desk. Guess I should have my Quicken program repaired, or, purchase a new one. Such is life.

When I finish my business taxes it's on to our combined income taxes. Glory glory.

The weather here is gray and slightly windy. Mild temps. Nice day to be stuck indoors. I hope all of you are well. I haven't had the time to browse your blogs....sorry. Oh, lost my Kindle. Or, it was stolen. I screwed the pooch, I believe, and left it behind at my surgeons office last Monday. Haven't as yet reached them to ask if some honest soul found and returned it to their front office. Had to call Amazon (good thing too) and ask them to freeze my account. They did confirm if its found, and the thief uses it to download books, it would be at my cost. So if you lose yours, call.

I shall return.

Stephen

  1. I hope your day gets better. You may end up at the range to blow off some steam. The bigger the gun, the bigger the boom!!

  2. I bet when you call your surgeon's office, they will have your kindle. Unless you had your name on it somewhere, how would they know who to call that they found it? We get things like that left at our office frequently and people eventually call and we get to be the 'good guys' for a change.

    : )

    1. Sweet Lady, you would have lost the bet. They called this morning and said it wasn't there, no one had seen it. I even gave them the exam room number, they searched. Nada. Guess it's time to order a new one.

  3. My taxes are simple - My daughter and I meet and give two small piles of paper to somebody else. Then she and I go to lunch.

    1. Lucky you, my friend. It takes me days and days. Then, I take the workbook my accountant gives me, with all the little boxes and spaces filled, and then he preforms his magic and bills me several hundred dollars. Ask me why I hate Socialist, go ahead, ask...

  6. I'm wondering how much longer individuals will be able to do their own taxes, even with Turbo Tax, etc, before it's so complicated as to be impossible.

Do what you must do, and we'll be here.

  7. I carry a camera with me everywhewre I go. When I travel, even locally I often carry my DSLR and sometimes my small video camera as well. I have a couple of extra SD cards along as well. On each SD card is a "picture" of a simple two line message basically saying this camera or SD card belongs to xxx and you can reach me at 800-000-0000. I haven't had the chance to test the honesty of anyone with this yet but I'm hopeful. When you get your Kindle back you should put a document on it with your name and number on it.

    1. Yeah, I doubt it getting returned is going to happen, unless the office where you left it has it. And I'm loathe to put identifying info on such a relatively inexpensive item.

Stephen, if you've already frozen the account, can't you unfreeze it when you get another Kindle and just reload the books you've already paid for?

    2. Anon, it's good advice but like Matt said, not sure I like the idea of leaving personal information on a device that cost less than two bills...but thank you for the kind comment.

Yes, I've frozen (or as they say, unregistered) the device. I'm not sure if I can reload all the material, I need to ask them...thank you.

  8. No problem, do your thing. As far as them telling you it's your problem, I'm a little concerned about that from a regulatory stand-point since those transactions would be electronic but that's for another time.

    1. Since the device is under my account (credit card) and always logged on, guess it would be awful easy for some critter to download a ton of books and I'd pay. All they need is wi-fi...thanks, Bubba.
