Politicians

Since the birth of this blog I've avoided the subject of politicians and politics as much as possible. This morning however I've been backed into the corner, so to speak.

Over breakfast Sweet Wife broached the evils of our so called representatives. She asked why I never wrote of their lack of leadership and the resulting consequences of their reluctance to correct the apparent problems of this country. The subject of this nation's depreciating currency, debt, failing infrastructure, and moral values were the bulk of the conversation.

For the most part I remained silent. She likes to talk. Finally she asked my opinion. and why I never post my thoughts on politics. It's simple, I said, because we're screwed and there is very little we can do to change the outcome of our future, other than of course, utilization of our vote.

I continued, there are countless bloggers with far more time on their hands than I, writing their thoughts with keen wit and insight, plugged into well establish audiences. I am but a flea on the butt of humanity. Now, having said that, I told her I'd write one post, and one post only, and give my opinion of politicians in today's America.

Ready, they're worthless.

When this country was founded, with its freshly minted Constitution, we had people representation. The local village elders would gather and walk out to Farmer Brown's field where he stood behind his mule and say, hey, Farmer Brown, pack your bags, you're taking a trip to the capital. The elders gave Farmer Brown a list of instructions, issues, with notes on how to vote. His vote (here comes that big word) represented the community. A people's representative. Simple. You ask what has changed....and here is the crux of the problem we have today, as I'm sure you're very much aware.

Back when Farmer Brown voted he packed his tote, mounted his horse, and rode back to the farm and placed his butt back behind the mule. He was a farmer. Not a career professional politician.

Now, your so-called representative, in either house of the Congress, no more represents you than the coffee table before me. Every decision they make, every vote they cast, is based upon 'how will this reflect on my reelection.' Period.  He's a professional, pure and simple, and until that day, when we return to that basic system of government - which I fear we'll never see again, you my good friend, are on your own.

This is the last, I hope, I'll ever write on the subject.

Stephen

  1. Back then is was also legal to carry your gun to Washington. I dare say one million people standing on the National Mall today with AR-15's or M1A's etc would help get the right kind of 'change'

    1. Duke, it would indeed catch the attention of the government, for sure. I fear, well know, only a handful of real Americans have the cojones to mount such an attack. Thanks, Bubba.

  2. which is why we need term limits. If the Presidents, Governors, and Mayors can only be it for 2 terms then why not our congressional reps? But as we all know, they will not vote themselves out of a job.

  3. Stephen, you said, "and until that day - which I fear we'll never see again"

    That day is coming....

This Past fall NC Governor, Bev Perdue floated this trial balloon:
    *****
"I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years...."
    *******

and the sheeple said (all together now), "BAA BAA BAA" hardly anyone took notice of this.

They're trying their best to figure out how to pull this idea off...

    1. Matt, I agree, although my comment was in the other direction, the fear of never having a people's congress, again. Thanks.

  4. yeah. Big sigh. I fear that the entitled are becoming the majority and that is our problem. "When the majority can vote themselves gold from the public coffers" and all that...

    1. Very true. The majority has found their nest egg,and now the sweet scent of cooked omelets fill the air.

  5. Matt, thank you. I've since gone back and clarified my sentence, and made a couple of edit corrections.

  6. I think D.C. should have term limits. If not term about length of session.
I try not to talk about politicians, too many folks have the mentality "Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is made up." My step grandfather would never talk about our elected officials. I made it know I voted GOP, and he was die hard Democrat, That ended that. ;)

Thanks Stephen for making such a brave posting.

  7. For your only politics post, it really is a good one.

My problem is that people constantly call those footstools in elected office "leaders". They are NOT our leaders. They are our employees, and they are NOT there to tell us how to live, or 'Lead' us anywhere. We don't need to be lead- we are already in the best country under the best set of laws- where would they 'lead' us to? I'll tell you- straight into bondage.

They are there to do the minutiae business of the country. We lead- they are supposed to do what we tell them.

  8. All very good points, and you are correct. They are far from being, leaders. Thank you for the nice comment.

  9. If the media would stop making celebrities of them - OK, first I guess, folks need to stop the addiction to the 24/7 news cycle - they may feel should fulfill the reason they were elected. I think the benefits of being elected are too good, also. They are FAR from representing real folks. OK, I'm done - I don't go into politics, either.

    1. Casey, celebrity worship is one of the major problems facing this country...most of the hoopleheads out there rely solely on the idiots out in Hollywood land for their very breath of life, how to vote, what to eat and wear, and for whom to cast the vote in elections. You assessments are spot on..thank you.

  10. As usual a very good post Stephen. I think many of us feel the way you do. Whether or not you write to the congresscritters every day or you totally shut out the politics, it won't matter. Something big is going to happen and that is what it will take to change this. Be it an attack real or false flag, an economic collapse or a huge natural disaster. The whole system needs to change.

  11. When I think of our current leaders, I have no faith. When I think of the individuals running for next term, I have no hope. This is the first time, in my young life, that I've felt this way...so much corruption, politicians putting their own best interests first.

    1. Sweet Lady, bless you, join the world of the rest of us. I know most of my friends and family have no faith whatsoever in those 'critters' in Washington. Our system of government is corrupted beyond, I'm afraid, beyond repair. Thank you.

  12. I never have had faith in our voting system. People who go around saying, "You can't complain if you don't vote." I think are idiots. I don't vote. I don't see the point. I don't feel like I can really get to know any candidate by what I see on tv. They will say anything to get your vote and then do just the opposite after they are elected.
I always have disliked people who only repeat what others say and don't question things. Good post. First I have read here and I enjoyed it.

  13. Becky, welcome, Sweet Lady. I believe I left a 'hit' on your follower button this morning. Nice blog you have. You are correct, I too feel my votes are wasted, yet, I continue to do so. I've always felt it important of me to vote if for no other reason than show. I swore, many many years ago to protect and defend my/our Constitution, a lifetime oath, and as such it's hard for me not to vote. Many good people gave their lives in order for us to have that privilege. Thank you very much for the kind words. BTW, I noticed another follower hit, but no icon. This makes it hard for to say thanks and welcome properly...may I assume it's you?

    1. Yes, I am following your blog now. The icon will probably show up by tomorrow. Sometimes they are slow. I do think it is important for us to have the right to vote. I just don't think it is possible to pick a decent candidate anymore. I voted one time when I was 19. I knew who I wanted to be the President but had no idea about the rest of the people that I voted for. I didn't even know who they were. It seemed stupid.
I understand about protecting and defending our Constitution. I have two sons in the Army doing it daily.

    2. Becky, thank you. I'll post a proper thanks tomorrow morning as soon as possible. I like working from my office computer; this laptop doesn't fit my hands. I understand how you feel about voting. Many times I've come close to just throwing my hands in the air and calling it quits...but not yet.

  14. Stephen - you said what a lot of your fellow Americans feel and you said it maturely and eloquently - thank you for sharing your thoughts on such a difficult matter.

  15. Same here with me Stephen. I promised to keep my blog G-rated and family friendly as much as possible. If I delved off into politics my rants would become R-rated very quickly. But my only opinion I feel like publicly disclosing is the sentiment we should NOT vote for ANY incumbent, which goes along exactly with the opinion you just expressed. The only way things will ever change for the better is for this country to hit rock bottom, and I feel we are well on the way!

    1. I agree, Swamp Dog, and will never vote for an incumbent...never. Thanks.

  16. Stephen,it is very hard to keep from saying what we really feel. For we know that it does not do us any real good. Except to blow off some steam now and then. And, get out our own point of view, aired out on a blog.
And those that blog a lot about how our country, and the Bozo's in power have screwed us again. Do us a service. And seem to come up with things that a lot us of may not of heard about, or give us info that we can check for our selves. And I thank them.

We all have a long row to hoe. And time is running short. God help us all. It's time for a good old house cleaning, all across the country.

    Great post my friend.
