St. Augustine

Will be our destination for our last night of 2011. We will leave in about two hours. What awaits is an evening of what the Irish fondly refer to as a 'soft evening' of warm temperatures with trees coated in tiny white lights, the smell of fine food, gentle laughter and history.

St. Augustine is the oldest city in our country. Many of the cobbled streets are worn smooth from several hundred years of horse drawn buggies, and the streets are narrow between walls constructed of oyster shells and lime; ferns and moss grow among the cracks that give onto hundred year old figs which stand next to sweet scented limes and Live Oaks old enough to have witnessed Spanish landings.

I just want a cold glass of Sangria.

I'll try and take a few pictures.

Stephen

  3. My parents loved the cold sangria in Spain, tasted no more alcholic than cool-aid with big chuncks of citrus fruit floating on top.

They were half way through their second 1 gallon pitcher when they realized they were half way through their second 1 gallon pitcher.

    Be careful and have fun.

I'll hoist a cold one for you tonight, while the old lady and I sit around a campfire.

  7. St Augustine, I loved to set on the balcony of A 1 Ale house there on the corner and watch the lights come. They do still light all of old town in white lights dont they? Is that seafood place still there? You know the one where you can throw bread out the little hatches in the wall to feed the fish. Yeah my old stomping grounds. Saltwater Cowboy use to be a nice place to eat. Have not been back home in years. That will have to be corrected soon mybe this summer. Enjoy yourself my friend and be safe. Happy New Years and may the new year be filled with many blessings and good fortune.

  9. PioneerPreppy, thank you and I did. They gave me a street glass filled with ice cold Sangria. I gave a toast to all.

kymber, I did as instructed, please note my last post. Gave the kiss to Little Bit, and told her why. We had a nice time, thanks.

Odysseus, I have this 'thing' about Sangria, but it must be cold, and you're correct. If it isn't taken in moderation it'll kick your butt. Thank you, my friend.

Kris, come on down and we'll take you. We did have fun. Thanks, Sweet Lady.

MsSgtB, I envy you your campfire. I read your comment on my cell while down there and gave you a toast in return. Thanks, my friend.

Duke, my good friend, we did, and thank you. See you soon.

    Rob, thanks, and we did...

Justcook, the Ale House is still there. I don't know of the seafood place unless you mean Creek Side, if so, she's still there built on a salt marsh. Saltwater Cowboy, i think, is gone. Many places have been kicked in the ass by this mini-depression, I'm afraid. Have you made your move? Thank you, and may your New Year be filled with many blessings too. Nice to 'see' you again.
