It was possible to purchase a crate of SKS surplus rifles coated in cosmoline for $75.00 or less? Think about it, a case of rifles for less than a hundred bucks. Now, for you young people out there this was before Clinton dipped his cigars for added flavor and texture.
Those days are over.
Last evening via text I tried to help an out of state friend find one for less than three hundred dollars. Most, it seems, have an asking price, in good to excellent condition, of between three hundred and fifty to six hundred dollars. God help you if its a nice Albanian or Russia made model.
Folks, if you haven't as yet purchased a good battle rifle.....better get with it.
Stephen
Purchased an accurate Romanian SKS from a friend a while back. I don't have to heart to "customize" it besides I like having the bayonet on it.
ReplyDeleteI remember when those SKS's were on tables at gun shows and they would drop the price to $65 if you would take 2 and people would walk right past them all day long. Odysseus, I don't have a problem chopping up a SKS to make what I want, they are a gun mass produced by enemies and will never be valued collector weapons except maybe when we are dead and gone and then who cares, and a well made 'paratrooper' style SKS will bring as much or more than a more common run of the mill gun. In my view if it makes me happy I will chop it. JMHO.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe where prices on gun in general have gone. The SKS is a real surprise. I've got one in collection, passed down from an uncle who got it Cambodia back in the day.
ReplyDeleteObama has been great for pushing up gun sales ...not so great for buyers. At least that's one thing he can't blame Bush for!
ReplyDeleteOdysseus, I agree. Many will take a perfectly good battle rifle, like the SKS, and customize the heck out of it. They're normally left with an ill fitted stock, a magazine that will not, after its loaded, insert correctly. They've taken a good rifle, battle proven, and made it into a piece of junk. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDuke, what can I say...
Sixbears, it's kinda spooky, prices today. Thanks.
HossBoss, yes he has, and if he's reelected, God help us. He'll push the so-called assault weapons ban as fast as possible...he'll have nothing to lose. Thanks.
If not Obama, Romney would only be the lesser of two evils ...he's nothing but a flip-flopping rino. But Obama and his media groupies know that and that's why it's always Romney who's played up in the press, even when the polls don't support him.
ReplyDeleteCall me a gun snob if you will, but I am holding out for a good deal on an M1A.
ReplyDeleteHossBoss, agreed. Romney is nothing more than a paler shade of Obama. And, anti-gun to boot.
ReplyDeleteShepherd K, the M1A is my go to battle rifle, love it, it's the best. However, many just can't afford a $1,500.00 weapon. If you can swing it, do so...
Dipped his cigars for added flavor and texture...hehe, I like it.
ReplyDeleteThere is a deal now here in Canada where you can get a SKS for $75.00 if you buy it with a crate of ammo. You can get a Russian here for about 200.00 and a Chinese for about 160.00 if you look aroud. I have a Russian because the ammo is so cheap and I love to shoot
ReplyDeleteDan
A Springfield M1A will run well over $2000.00 here in Canada. I have one on my wish list though.
ReplyDeleteDan
I'll have to settle for my "Brothers Mosin Nagant". A 91/30 and an M44. Got plenty of ammo for both. And... they have their uses.
ReplyDeleteHillbilly, you're the only one so far to catch it...thanks.
ReplyDeleteDan, those are greats deals on the rifles, jump on it, drive across the border and I'll take a few...really..and the M1A, shucks. Make the trip and I'll make you a deal on one.
Craig, my friend those are fine old rifles. They'll rock you teeth from recoil but they are accurate. Tough as nails too. Thanks for the comment.
Picked up my Russian SKS back in the day for fifty bucks. My dad who had his FFL back then was buying the crates of five for $200.00 I think. Just wish I had picked up a crate or more myself.
ReplyDeleteI remember those days. I bought mine when I was 18 or so for next to nothing. I really don't think I'd ever get rid of it. It's just a great, reliable rifle.
ReplyDeletePioneerPreppy, those were the days weren't they...wish I had a few crates stashed too. Thank you.
ReplyDelete45er, very wise...hang on to it. Thanks.
I seriously traded a Spyderco knife and $10 for my SKS. And it was the "Paratrooper" model with the shorter barrel.
ReplyDeleteAh, to have had money back in those days.
That Guy, nice deal. I own a 'paratrooper' too, nice little rifle. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteGuys - it's such a relief reading about "real" people and battle rifles. in 30 caliber.
ReplyDeleteI am so sick and tired of the 2 thousand dollar tricked out AR's being touted as the end all do all.
Not to start a flame war between "platforms" (another phrase I hate).
You would have thought that the years spent in the sandbox in an urban environment would have taught more people that the .223 just doesn't cut it in the modern world.
JC, like I've said, my M1A is my go-to battle rifle. Thank you. Nice to have you.
