Over at
http://ninepoundsledge.blogspot.com/, is a great post I truly understand.
Snippet:
So, with Progeny on her 3rd day of Kindergarten, I had the duty of taking her down to the bus stop. After seeing her onto the bus, I drove to the school, and met her coming off the bus. I then walked her to the Cafeteria for breakfast, and made sure she could get to class, and letting her know who to ask if she forgot how to get to class. And then I left her there. And I feel horrible. I have visions in my head of Beslan, Columbine, and every pedophilic pervert ever found in a school rolling through my head. If I had my way, not only would I walk her to and from class, I would set up in a tree with my rifle and made sure she was unmolested. And have her wearing specially made panties that say, "Notice from her Father: Go any further and I will kill you."
Check it out....if you're a father or grandfather, you'll get it.

Being a parent with young kids would be tough these days. I suppose I'm just suffering from selective memory, but it seems like a lot more really bad things go on today in that respect than they did in the 50's and 60's when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteArsenius, our country's standards and morals have taken a big hit in the last thirty years. I insist on driving my grandchild to school every day so I know she's safe in route. As she is enrolled in a private school, she's safer there than our state's socialist public child dump. Still, I worry.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a good read. If I was the father in that situation, it would have read “If you can read this, you will be dead shortly.”
ReplyDeleteSadly, there are no private schools anywhere out here, except the Mormon and Amish schoolhouses, although I would trust either one with my kid’s preschooling, if I had to. The school near me has a capacity of 300 students, just opened last week at a cost of $27 million, and houses preK to 12th grade. The senior class of 2011 had 5 students. It’s one of 12 schools in the valley that were just rebuilt with rural grant money. And every school, except the 4 in “cities” have the same attendance. We hope to send our kid(s) there one day when we breed. With nothing but farmers and survivalists out here, there is a good chance they might get a good education. And with parents with college degrees, we will make sure they learn.
I was that dad, too. Both daughters have been home-schooled, and we don't regret a single day of that. They're fine, thankyouverymuch, and both are grateful we didn't send them to the public zoo, er, schools.
ReplyDeleteMudbug, I too believe in home schooling. Can't get my DIL to home school, so my wife and I took upon ourselves to pay for a private school for our granddaughter. It would be hard for me to sleep at night otherwise.
ReplyDeleteRev. Paul, good for you. Smart move. And, I sure both are better for it.
I am that mom lol. As crime here keeps rising with areas like ours becoming targets I will be the scary mom. I drive Bug to and from. If we are here once we hit middle she will homeschool or private. Our elementary is very safety conscious. The only way in is through the office. Otherwise we have a locked fence system. That helped with my angst. Her teacher last year was superb. I hope this year measures up. I may consider the K12 system sooner rather than later though.
ReplyDeleteYup. I'm that Dad to the 10th power. I told Sweet Wife the other day that my three small blond fairies will be taking martial arts soon. She asked which one and I replied, "which ever one teaches them to pop put a pedophiles eyeball and feed it to him". None of this inner peace and getting centered crap. We have already covered the soft and tender spots to hit topic and one has even been given the free and clear to slug this little boy at her school that keeps messing with her. I hope I'm doing right; they are so dear to me as I know y'all's are to you. Thanks for the link. Funny read. I do like the printed panties thing. Maybe we can all get together and order some.
ReplyDeletePS-I've already decided to just beat the living tar out of the first boy that shows up; maybe word will get around. Ha!
I'm a public school teacher. Our daughter is homeschooled. She is home with her father. Dad's don't walk, run with your children to the nearest public exit.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I can add to the growing list of designs in the store inspired by the blog community I love, lol!! I could so do that. It has always struck me as weird to sell undies in my store but that would be a dang good use for them. I have been so into my writing though I haven't really put up designs recently. Hmmm.....
ReplyDeleteIt is very thoughtful and kind for people to make sure the children get to school safely. We shouldn't have to worry about those other things, but so is life today. However I disagree with the pantie thing for only one reason--think about if they get that close to your child, its too Late! I too believe in homeschooling and did it for 10 years..if I had it to do again, I wouldn't have listened to family, I would have taken him out in kindergarten, not 4th grade! Private school is better also, you still have to watch and be involved, which today a lot of parents just aren't going to. Thank goodness there are dads and grandads that feel like you and act on it! Lets hope and pray all the children are safe this year and every year.
ReplyDeleteLila, on your first comment; it's the reason my Little Bit is in private school too...a better education and security. On the panties, go for it, I'd buy 'em.
ReplyDeleteHillbilly, we think much alike. Thanks.
Stuck in CA, thank you. I so agree. I forwarded you comment to some friends of mine. Hope it shacks them into reality.
Teri K, well said. Thanks.
I started my baby back to day school since I, myself, will soon be going back. I wanted to get her adjusted by dropping her off a few hours each day to ease her into the situation. I feel horrible each time I leave her. After two days, she's already caught a bug and running fever...those are the other predators lurking in the midst. Now, I feel doubly horrible for leaving her there.
ReplyDeleteAlso, your post reminds me- Once, a homeless man was discovered on my eldest's school cafeteria stage. I think he'd been there a few days before a janitor discovered him. The school sent notes telling parents to remind students to walk in pairs/groups etc, report unknown persons, yada yada, but w/no word of what they were doing to ensure children's safety. This school building was very old and had multiple accesses for entrance, none of which were locked. I put up a big stink and even had the school audited by a state organization (a personal favor from a friend in the agency). That was almost three years ago. Still, nothing has been done. We pulled her from that district, but I feel bad for the kids there...sitting ducks if you ask me. The week that happened, a multitude of shooting incidences happened across the nation, all of which I detailed in a letter to the principle, the board member, and the superintendent. All I got was finger pointing and excuses. : (
ReplyDeleteA Kitchen Witch, Next Monday I shall take my Little Bit to her first day of school, and like you, it'll kill my heart.
ReplyDeleteYou've hit the nail on the head where public schools are concerned. I hate them. Safety is one of the biggest issues with me. The state curriculum the other. If my child had been attending a school where they allow bums to 'shack out' in the lunch room, she'd get jerked out as fast as humanly possible. Thank you for your kind comments.
