I can't seem to shake this routine of wide awake at zero four hundred in the dadgum morning. Even the moon remains in slumber. Owls have taken to their nest and snore. Me, on my second cup of coffee and the clock just flipped to 0502.
I'm stuck in a rut but have mastered the art of the perfect over easy egg.
I served mine on English muffins. Hint, low heat and butter.
To matters worse my newspaper is late, and I hear thunder.
It'll be a long day.
Stephen
I forget what it is called, but the wide awake at early AM (time varies- for me it is around 2:00) is very common. I saw a book that came out on it not that long ago.
ReplyDeleteBefore lighting was common (like in Medieval times) it was a commonly accepted phenomena.
Still, I hate it. I do remember my grandparents retired for the night as soon as the sun set and rose about three or four to begin their chores...her to chop kindling for the wood cookstove and him to feed and water the critters. They both lived long happy lives. Thanks, Russell. Oh, check out Andrew Winters, northeast writer....I've yet to read his stuff but thought you'd like to know.
DeleteNext time, fry a thin slice of bacon flavored Spam to add to your egg and English muffin.
ReplyDeleteI know, I know - Spam? - but it IS good.
Believe it or not I've many cans of Spam in my preps...I should rotate a few. Thanks, Sweet Lady.
DeleteDoesn't seem to matter how late I get to bed, I've been waking up before the crack of dawn. No excuse for it either. If I wanted to, I should be able to sleep until the crack of noon as I don't have a normal job.
ReplyDeleteSixbears, I guess it's age...I can think of no other reason.
DeleteYou have it easy! I am going to see a urologist! I swear, if he comes at me with those latex gloves; he will die a very swift death!
ReplyDeleteSarge
It's that smile or grin they put on their face as they walk towards you and how they allow the latex to snap around their stubby little fingers....I'm telling 'ya, those guys have issues. I've been known to remove my carry piece and gently place it upon the exam table. Just saying....
DeleteThe man was in surgery at St Mary's and I got to deal with his nurse-practitioner (I kind of like those things) - No finger wave.
DeleteBut, take Sarge's advice - after fifty, have a digital exam and a PSA blood test done every year.
The cancer I had was so small that it was undectible with a finger wave!
They nuked it for 43 days in a roll! Some nasty side affects - But, better than the alternative.
Nope, my junk doesn't glow in the dark!
Ron
Damn, Ron, sorry about the cancer. I indeed have the wave done each year. I'm a decade and then some past fifty. I also have a scope rammed up my colon every three years.
DeleteI am happy to hear your junk doesn't glow in the dark. Thank you, my friend.
At least your coffee maker works. Thought (hoped) it was the plug but not so lucky. My day at home didn't start out so well.
ReplyDeleteReplaced mine about a month back...since I'm a loner in my house when it comes to coffee I purchased a small four cup model. Publix. About eight bucks.
DeleteStephen,
ReplyDeleteHave you tried taking melatonin? This is natural and over the counter. The best type to use are the lozenges.
Melatonin helps get to sleep, and sleep longer (a normal night sleep).
Yes, my lovely friend. Taken it each night for the last three months. At times I believe it helps. Thanks, my Sweet Sandy.
Deletebuddy - sweet Sandy above is right about the melatonin. it works for jam when he can't stay asleep, but it doesn't work for everyone. i have tried it many times and it doesn't do a thing. but it may help you.
ReplyDeleteyummeh, eggs over easy are my favourite kind! your friend,
kymber
The melatonin seems to help...but the jury is still out. Thanks, sweet one.
Deleteyer welcome, sweet one.
DeleteSince we've been working on the highway, that's what time we've started work for two weeks.
ReplyDeleteIt's a good time at 4:00 am. The quiet night is undisturbed by but a few people, the stillness is a blessing of contentment and nothing taste better than a fresh cup of coffee at that time.
If I had scheduled my life to rise at 0400 and work I could handle it....but....
DeleteIt is though a fine time of day. Thanks, my friend.
