At this very moment one of you poor souls, like me, has American Idol on their television. Every week, for the most part, I've had to listen to this mess in the background as I try to read or write. Sweet Wife loves it.
I must confess - it's nice to hear my wife sing along with the kids on the screen. She has a nice voice, and sings softly, all gentle and tender. It makes her happy. The least I can do is give her a couple of hours to free her mind from the ugliness of this world.
I wish it were as simple for me.
I hate the show.
Stephen
I can't watch that show and I refuse to watch America's Got Talent. The REAL talent is the woman sitting in the chair singing soft and low.
ReplyDeleteVery true, my new friend. When she's happy, I'm happy. Thank you very much for the link on your blog. I shall thank you properly tomorrow. Please, make yourself at home. It's always nice to meet new friends. Thanks for the nice comment.
DeleteOh, forgot, I too have linked you...thanks.
DeleteDitto!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, mizdeb. The show bugs me to no end...
DeleteIf someone sends me a youtube of one of the contestants I have watched those but I have never seen the actual show. We very seldom watch any of the 3 major networks. I like reruns of the older shows when we were actually entertained.
ReplyDeleteMama Bear, if not for Discovery, History, the Military channel and my old western channel, I'd not watch television. I like books, and this computer. Thank you for the comment and God bless.
Deletenot me....i work second shift....and there no TV's here.
ReplyDeleteYou're a lucky fella, my friend. BTW, a man rode to the shop on a 1980 model Harley yesterday, stock. I thought of you...thanks, my friend.
DeleteI have never seen it. Of course I haven't had a television that actually picked up airwaves or cable in over a decade but I have caught up on some shows on the internet.
ReplyDeleteYou haven't missed a thing, my friend. Not one thing...
DeleteThe Missus loves those shows. I like it that they make her happy. That's not a big price to pay.
ReplyDeleteI think that you and I have a couple things in common.
Without a doubt, my friend. I read all your work and I know we have much in common. You're a good man. Thanks.
DeleteI very rarely watch TV any more. Maybe discovery, history or TLC channels, although they are biased. I would rather read like you do Stephen :)
ReplyDeleteBooks haunt me, Bubba. I spend far too much money on them. It's a weakness, but a good addiction to have in ones life. They help me through issues and pains that would normally cripple the weak of mind. I do not understand how people cannot read for pleasure. Like now, for instance, I've a book sat aside in order for me to write this and the silly boobtube barks in the background. I just block out the tube. Take care my friend, and thanks.
DeleteThank god we have two TV's and our laptops, I just may go pucking funts. I hate all of those shows all are decided way before any one votes.
ReplyDeleteMe, I'll stick to my library. The television is to blame (my opinion only) for all that is bad in this once great country. Thanks, my friend.
DeleteI agree, I've banned reality TV for myself. What whoey! Give me a good book or the Good Book any day.
ReplyDeleteWe very much agree, Izzy, my friend. Thanks.
DeleteI am very lucky that no one in my house really cares about TV. Other than football our television is rarely on.
ReplyDeleteI have become obsessed with the Military Channel, so if I get a spare minute that's what is on.
Good for you, Pretty Girl. Having lived the life of the military I seldom watch the military channel, I do, just not as often as some. I did enjoy their color coverage of WW2. Thanks, my sweet friend.
Deletei really dislike that show but if Sweet Wife enjoys it - that's the least you can do for her. i love books too. we read a lot around here.
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
Exactly how I see it, kymber. It's the least I can do for her. Thanks, sweet one.
DeleteTotally agree! I don't watch TV either. I get all my news from the internet. Hubby likes the Speed, TLC and History channels. I'd rather read. I'm one of those lucky (?) ones that can read several books at a time.
ReplyDeleteWas thinking about getting a Kindle, but my many piles of books scattered around the house makes it homey. I guess I should build some more bookcases....
I'm like you...I have at least three books under way almost all the time...then the Kindle. Amazon has given me a plague on their front stoop....I do build extra bookcases and have little space for additional. Thanks, my lovely friend.
DeleteI agree, can't stand it. My husband loves it, though. Sets it to record on the DVR weekly. I don't understand how a man over 40 can stomach that show. At least he doesn't call the numbers :) He has always been about music, though. There are billions of brain cells in his head wasted with song lyrics. Oh the possibilities he wasted...
ReplyDeleteOh, sorry about that....then again we can't all have the same taste. You never know, he might write the next great number one hit....thanks, Sweet Mermaid.
DeleteOh boy, I could say a lot but this is a family show.
ReplyDeleteYou can have no idea how much I refrain from truly expressing my hate on issues like this one, my best friend....no idea. Thanks, Bubba.
DeleteStephen,
ReplyDeleteI believe,I watched the original one with Kelly Clarkson. I haven't tuned into this program in years. We watch very little TV, on our off time, we prefer reading. There is alot of ugliness in this world, so a little down time to relax the mind is a good thing for Sweet Wife.
You do understand. Most nights of late she's fallen asleep with tears in her eyes....life isn't pretty for her at present. Nor, for me. This, this, is what takes my mind off the ugliness of our lives...thanks, my gentle and kind friend.
DeleteNeither hubby nor I care for that show. Glad you have an arrangement and kindly hold your tongue when it is on. Glad she could get some down time to relax. With spouses, there is usually at least one program that the other does not like. To a certain degree opposites do attract, and the differences keep us interested and sometimes a bit baffled.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that's why we get along as well as we do, the opposites attract indeed applies to us. She's shy, gentle. I tend to express myself without hesitation and if angered, which is seldom, bust stuff. Thank you, my dear.
