Bits & Pieces

Sunny and warm here. Should hit the mid-eighties today. Awful, awful weather. I want rain and thunderstorms with a bit of lightning thrown in for good measure. I like storms.

We had both grandchildren last evening. Their parents wanted a night out - movie and dinner. Five minutes after she arrived Little Bit wanted to play Monopoly. All of a sudden she's in love with the game. Its a wonderful game as it teaches children the value of money (like the valueless fiat currency we all know and hate and use each day) and taxes.

The first time she was hit with the luxury tax it was fun and just part of the game. The second time she didn't like it at all because she was saving money to out maneuver Papa for one of the four railroads. She catches on quickly. The third time she was hit with a tax she picked up her game piece and slung it across the room and yelled, "It isn't fair, Papa."

Ah, the birth of another capitalist.

Later, after she fell asleep, Sweet Wife said she wasn't sure it was good for me to mold this little girl in my image - or words to that affect. I asked why. Because, she said, our country has changed and she'll need to fit or blend in with all the other Socialist. (In jest, of course.) She's afraid Little Bit will be ostracized. Sweet Wife continued, think about it for a moment. How many other little girls own their own rifles, spend time searching the pavements for lost coins and then save them for later investment in gold and silver. How many other little girls understand the basic concepts of mortgages and property management and taxes at seven years of age. How many other little girls refer to none conservatives as 'democritters.'

Not many I replied, with a smile.

Little Bit was able to spend the night. After she fell asleep I gently picked her up and carried her to bed. Just as I laid her down she reached and touched my face and mumbled, "You're my best buddy, Papa."
I held her for the rest of the night. She's my best buddy, too.

Let's change the subject.

Gold is in a dip today. Hint, hint. Don't think of it as spending your fed notes. Think of it as exchanging worthless currency for real money, value. Gold and silver, my friends, will always be 'worth' something. Those pieces of fiat currency lose value daily.

Just a word to the wise.

Now, I've a novel to finish. See you later.

Stephen

  1. My grandpa was my buddy, we would fish and do all kinds of stuff together. He died when I was 11, I was so sad. If he was still around he would be 102. I still miss him and hope he approves of how we have raised our kids.

    Thanks for sharing my friend.

  3. My grandson is into the Monopoly Deal (card game) version of the game. Very entertaining, too - and the game doesn't have to last a couple of hours :)

  5. dear sweet one - she gets cuter with every pic you take and every story you tell! one time, me and jambaloney were playing monopoly with 2 of jambaloney's buddies. jambaloney and D were winning, and being that i hate to lose, i started swapping money and properties with jambaloney's other buddy under the table - we were cheating like mad and only barely keeping our heads above water. neither jambaloney nor his buddy caught on and no matter how much we cheated - we still lost. jambaloney won the game. years later when we were laughing and talking about different stories and i told him that me and his buddy cheated our faces off - he actually got upset??? like really upset. i laughed my fool head off. i couldn't believe how upset he got. but that is the kind of man that i married - he would never cheat at anything. me - i still think it's funny!

but i am glad that she has a buddy. having a buddy is really important, Papa! just re-read Rob's comment above.

    your friend,
    kymber

  8. I don't know if it will help ease the worries of your Sweet Wife, but speaking as an adult who was an ostracized kid - it's not as bad as adults fear, and it's not forever.

If you encourage her to be strong, and thoughtful, and curious, she may be ostracized by the associates-not-of-her-choosing in school, but there is life outside of and after school. Even if high school is four years of damnation, it is not the real world, and there are enough people out there to allow even the strangest of us still have rich social lives and meet our perfect partner.

Teaching her to think, to live, and to define herself and her happiness without worrying about what others may think or say will allow her to be strong and happy no matter where she goes or what cards life deals her.

Don't wish for her to be normal - wish for her to be great, and to be happy.

    1. Indeed, very true. She really doesn't fear the way I teach our grandchild. She teases me when she notices Little Bit mimic me. Very astute and I agree with you. Thanks, Dear Lady. Now, if only I had a pilots license....

  10. Find another. Our version is from the early 90's. I've grown to love it again since Little Bit's taken to it.

  11. Is it better to be true or to be normal ?
Sometimes I wonder, but for sure, with great parents like you are, this little angel will be proud of her values and will find a balance in life because of all the love she received.

Keep the good job going !
