Still alive here. I'm on recess. Book and shortwave radio time. The old cat is in my lap and we're takin' life easy....
The taxes are finally finished, the plumber has completed his work and at a reasonable price, and the weather is once again cool and windy.
Life is good.
Now, if the dadgum preachers would get off the airwaves I'd be happy.
Later,
Stephen
A cat in the lap is always a good thing. Enjoy your recess. We all need one now and then.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Vicki....time spent away results in guilt.
DeleteWorld Band Zenith? 1960's????
ReplyDeleteActually 1950's...the one pictured isn't mine...file photo. I own two but mine are in much better shape and were completely restored.
DeleteForgot, model 500.
DeleteNice Trans Oceanic! A storied radio for sure. Mine's a bit newer than yours though.
ReplyDeleteIt's not mine. I own two and both are early fifties. Thanks, Bro.
DeleteHey, I have one of those. Not within arm's reach, in the other room. Simply wonderful audio, when you get a music program.
ReplyDeleteAs for the cat, Mojo loves lying in bed in our arms, and loves to be held, but Does Not Do Laps.
My old cat demands, lap. She'll fight you for the best position.
DeleteI got my taxes back from the tax accountant last week. Not particularly welcome news but it's better to know than to wonder about it.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I await the call.
DeleteI love mine. Mine has the circular tuning dial instead of the "straight across" like the one in the photo above.
ReplyDeleteThere's a fella that will completely restore your set....I mean like new as far as working condition with upgrades. He sells on Ebay or at least did post his projects. Over the years I've purchased two sets from the guy and love 'em both. With extendable coil antennas it's amazing, their range. Whenever I catch the program 'Mash' I always try and spot the model five hundreds...Hawkeye has one beside his bunk.
DeleteI never knew that, I'll be looking as I watch it several times a week.
DeleteYou will not see 'em in every program but now and then you'll spot one. He grabs one when he has a date with the nurses. Lots of Coleman stuff on the show too.
DeleteOur similar SW radio either took a direct hit (power surge) or the cat somehow toppled the heavier than all heck unit off a bookshelf and smashed into pieces. Very sad day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame....salvage the parts, especially the tubes.
DeleteI've got one of the later ones in the brown leather case.
ReplyDeleteAnd if it wasn't for the preachers on SW, all you'd hear is static and WWV!
Ah, come con, Bubba....just last night I listened to a Cuban munching a taco....
