Of course, but not like a boatload of roses and lavender-headed old women...gun powder, sure. Garlic, fine. Gun grease, works for me...but Shirley from my third grade class...not so much.
Totally agree. Heck, women should also heed this advice. If I'm in a restaurant and I can't taste the food because of the smells coming off a person, they should be banned!
I used to wear cologne once in a great while until The Queen developed an extreme sensitivity to chemicals. Now, nada, and I am perfectly happy with that.
To all men who wear too much cologne: You know your date hates your cologne when she starts gasping for air and reaches for her epi-pen. Better watch out, she could have a spare and might use it on you out of spite.
Grew up loving Old Spice cause my dad wore it and that pomade they used to put on the guys when they got their hair cut, don't know what they called it but it sure smelled clean. My hubby can't stand strong perfume but I do wear some lavender oil after I take a shower. It relaxes me and hubby likes it cause it is very faint. He works at a grocery store and says some of the guys do smell like they came from a french whore house, the odor lingers long after they have gone. I think it is all the different things you can get with the scent. If you work in an office, don't wear any scents please for the love of God...nothing worse than competing perfumes.
There were so many hair tonics in those days, Denise. Most guys today use little to nothing on their hair...like me. Thanks for the nice comment, dear lady.
oh dear sweet one - i would LOOOOOOVE to smell you. my father wore old spice and aqua velva - i love the smell of both aftershaves. i loved you right from the start but as i get to learn more and more about you - i love you even more!
remind me to tell you how my father saved my sister's heel with a bottle of aqua velva....the stuff is miraculous!
my sister hopped a fence that had 3 old glass panes leaning up against the fence - she didn't see the glass because of the elephant ears growing at the fence. severed her entire heel off right to the ankle bone. managed to get home, came in the door and dropped to the floor. my father said "minnie - go get your sister's ankle!". i ran to the White's yard (where she jumped the fence) and had no problem locating the heel - ick - it was still pumping blood AND had a heartbeat. i picked it up and ran back home. my father had called for an ambulance, my sister was out cold with shock, my father took a clean pickle jar and filled it with aqua velva. he rinsed my sister's heal and popped it into the jar of aqua velva. we met the ambulance on the road, transferred me and my sister to the ambulance, went to the nearest hospital, got med-evacced to Halifax. they took my sister's heal out of the pickle jar of aqua velva, rinsed it in some peroxide and sewed it right back on her foot. they said that if her heel had have been wrapped in cloth or anything like that - they wouldn't have been able to save it and she would have needed a cane to walk for the rest of her life and special shoes. but the aqua velva saved her foot! woohoo! she went on to become an awesome basketball and soccer player. imagine eh? aqua velva has a million other uses too!
and i have no trouble believing that the ladies swoon, me darlin'!
As a French I wear perfume almost everyday but I hate being poisoned by people emptying one gallon of cheap smelling perfume on themselfes every morning.
I remember an awful moment in a small closed office with one of those cheap "perfumoholic", if I was a jew I would complain this nazi tried to gas me !
Everything classy has to be discreet and it's especialy true when it comes to perfume.
Anyway we all know that the best smell is the powder perfume on our hands after a good shooting session ! :-)
A well chosen perfume can make a beautiful lady even more beautiful :-)
Life is still good in most parts of france especialy when you're away from Paris and the suburbs.
But economy is going down for years now and we are told to make more and more sacrifices,I don't see any solution for Europe right now. Patriotism is coming back, it might be a solution.
We're having good time at the range with funny and responsible citizens.
I hope to save enough and open a buisiness in the Philippines during the following years, this is where my wife is coming from.
I wonder how is life in Florida, since I am a teenager I am fascinated by USA,especialy florida and Louisiana.
"read" you soon Stephen keep the good job with your great blog !
Manfred, I agree with you on females and perfume...
Like France, our economy here in Florida has taken a dive since many misguided Americans voted in a Marxist for president. Many have not only lost their homes and jobs, but have lost all reason to try and rebuild their lives and have quit their efforts to seek employment. Florida is still a nice place to live and raise a family; its crowded now and development has pushed our wild places to the brink but I'm optimistic growth can be held in check. I wish you good luck with your future plans and business in the Philippines. I once lived there for a period of time - wonderful people. Thanks, my friend.
Sad to hear the situation is so bad there. Very few people lost their houses here because of no "subprimes crisis" and a relatively strong social protection. This social protection is a burden for our economy too,it's very expensive to hire someone and everything is slow inside a compagny because of the lack of employees.
As a relatively poor worker (security guard) I can not pay the rent without help of the government and I am not much richer when I have a job than when I am jobless.
This system makes people feeling lost and self esteem is just a dream or something only our parents can remember.
I'd like to earn a living with my working but it's not the plan of our socialist government and the many governments employees ruling our lives.
Thanks, my friend. Your English is far better than my French. Now you understand why so many of us US residents fight against many in our government pushing us towards Socialism....true Americans still believe in our Republic and Capitalism..it works. When people find it's easier to live off the hard work of others while they sit on their collective asses the whole system will eventually collapse. Thank you, my good friend.
I'd rather have that manly musty odor than smell like a French whore.
ReplyDeleteI still believe Hoppes #9 would make a great aftershave. And, I agree with you. Thanks, Matt.
DeleteStephen, your reply re: Hoppes #9 beat me to the punch. Darned time zones. :)
ReplyDeleteWhy, oh why, hasn't some company jumped on the gun culture ban wagon and made us a great aftershave...they're missing the boat.
DeleteShouldn't men smell . . . manly?
ReplyDeleteOf course, but not like a boatload of roses and lavender-headed old women...gun powder, sure. Garlic, fine. Gun grease, works for me...but Shirley from my third grade class...not so much.
DeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bubba. We agree.
DeleteTotally agree. Heck, women should also heed this advice. If I'm in a restaurant and I can't taste the food because of the smells coming off a person, they should be banned!
ReplyDeleteGag a maggot...we agree, sweet lady. Nice visit today, thanks.
DeleteI used to wear cologne once in a great while until The Queen developed an extreme sensitivity to chemicals. Now, nada, and I am perfectly happy with that.
ReplyDeleteFor me, it's Old Spice in the Fall and Winter. Spring and Summer, Aqua Velva. Thanks, my friend.
DeleteI used to favor Old Spice Lime Aftershave, so of course they discontinued it. Hard to find lime-scented products any more at a reasonable price.
ReplyDeleteBob, like you I haven't seen Lime Old Spice in years...thanks, my friend.
DeleteTo all men who wear too much cologne:
ReplyDeleteYou know your date hates your cologne when she starts gasping for air and reaches for her epi-pen. Better watch out, she could have a spare and might use it on you out of spite.
Sound advice, Mrs. S., thanks.
Deleteit is Harley oil and bug guts for me......
ReplyDeleteAs they used to say, I can dig it...thanks, Bubba.
DeleteA perfectly fine combination, that. It's 40W oil and avgas for me, with a light acrid note of Brake Kleen.
DeleteI bet you're a fine date, Pretty Lady....
DeleteOy, even if they want to find a good aftershave, I strongly, strongly recommend they don't douse themselves in it.
ReplyDeleteI've already got one coworker who... encourages me to be attending to business anywhere but within a 20 foot radius of her. By perfume alone.
I agree...nothing bugs me more than a man, upon entrance, makes one back off for a deep breath.
