On The Road

Humping down the road when I came upon this (and here my silly skills have posted two pictures of the same view, oh well) beautiful Willy's Jeep. I followed until the driver parked.

Isn't it a piece of art. Anyone know its vintage? I know it's WW2, but what year?

  1. It's hard to tell a year. They made that jeep from WWII til into the 50's

  2. I would have to say it's maybe a 1941-1943 model.

  4. That's a beauty. Don't know the year though. We still had the M151 when I was in, they're all gone now though.

  5. Joe, I've never been able to find a way to 'date' an old Willy's Jeep.

Arsenius, years ago, back in the early 80's I think, I found a stash of crated Jeeps on a nearby Navy airbase. The problem, other than price, was they had to be purchased at bid in lots of ten. Some company in Texas snatched 'em up.

Hillbilly, welcome and good for you.

  6. It's hard to say on the Willys. I never saw one with the axe mounted where it is, most of the earlier ones had a shovel/pick combination mounted below the drivers door.

    Probably early 40's.

  7. MBailey, like you I've never seen an ax mounted like this one. It's a nice addition though. I agree too it's probably from the early 40's, but how do we know for sure. It'll bug the heck out of me until I find out.
    Thanks for dropping by.

  8. Yeah, I've already spent too much time in Google images searching for a match. Like you I guess, things like that bug me until I "conquer" them ;^) NP on the drop by, I think that you swung by my place the other day and left a compliment.

  9. MBailey, sorry for the late reply. Yes, give it up, I too had a hard time with its date. Thanks.
