It's more than the content. It's being sold by the author and it is a limited edition. Leather bound, etc. Like all collectables, it's a gamble if you are only looking for a profit. If you are looking to own it for your collection, it is probably worth the price. At least 1,498 others thought so since there are only 2 left out of the original 1,500 printing in 1988.
First Edition goes back to at least 1937. By 1949 you have an expanded, revised third edition. If you go to Abe Books (a sort of coop of used book stores) you can get all of these for less than $100, and some for less than $50. For this type of book, I would always check Abe books pricing before pulling the trigger at Amazon. The high price tag Amazon I think is more a factor of a thin market supply there, rather than value.
As much as I love old books and having them printed in hand. For that price I would go with....

You do know this was a joke of a post...right.
DeleteThanks, Bro.
Not at that price! There are some good manuals a LOT cheaper! :-)

ReplyDeleteI've collected first editions for over fifty years. With that said, I wouldn't pay the price of this edition for lover nor money....
DeleteThanks, Dick.
