Me, the Owl

I should grow feathers and talons and join the friggin owls on the limb. Here it is three-thirty in the friggin morning and I'm still awake. Just sat the Kindle down and I'm on my second glass of cold milk. Aside here - next gallon of milk I buy will be the full fat, bring on the cream, real milk. I'm sick of this watery pale white stuff.

I'm this close to downing a full bottle of sleep medication. Took one earlier...nothing, nada. Might as well eat candy. I expected to open my business between eight and nine...what, five hours from now. I'm telling 'ya, if I find sleep between now and then...it isn't gonna happen. Damn, I hate late middle age.

Well...just look at me. I've written a rant.

Excuse me. I've another chapter to read.

Oh, I've replied to your most kind comments. You can thank me in the morning, ah wait....never mind.

Stephen

  2. Have you tried melatonin? I used to take 3 mg about two hours or so before i wanted to be asleep. I used to get bouts of insomnia all the time.

    1. I sure have, JayNola....and it didn't help a bit. Forced it down for several months. This problem has stuck with me for years. My bouts of insomnia are legendary.

  4. I don't know what it is, but if I go to bed before 22:00, I wake up at 03:15. Every. Single. Night. Most of the time, that's it for the night, too. May have to start working out before bed again ... and here I thought pushing 60 was exercise enough. :)

Srsly, sorry to hear about the ongoing insomnia.

    1. We're much alike in that regard. I hate it. Had the drops all day, my pen, keys, tools...felt like an idiot. Customers kept asking if I felt 'okay.' Just smiled and said, fine.

  5. Using electronics is a bad idea. They emit light on the blue end of the spectrum, which tells your body it's time to be awake. Makes the root problem worse.

Read a real book, try chamomile or catnip tea, and take care of yourself. Lack of sleep sucks.

    1. dear sweet one - HH above is dead right. stay away from computers, kindles, iphones, the television, etc. the chamomile tea, catnip tea, lavender tea or bamboo tea also works. and yes, get yourself some proper milk if you find it soothing. try warming it a little. sip your tea or milk, sit in a comfy chair, have only one light on to read with and read a book. even if you can't sleep, doing those things should feel restful at the very least. much love.

      your friend,

  6. I feel your frustration. I work swinging 12 hour shifts. If I work Mon and Tue on days (7 to 7) I'll work F,S and S on nights, then back in W and Th on days, then M and Tu on nights etc, etc.
I can sleep fine at night and used to be able to sleep during the day but not anymore.
Many times while on night shift I get about 1.5 to 2 hours of sleep. Not because I'm trying to do things, I'm in the bed.
I've got blackout curtains, sleep masks, ear plugs, no noise, doesn't help. Even when I can sleep, yesterday I got 4 hrs, I feel like crap most of the night.
Dr is suggesting Ambien, I'm not sure about that. But the plant nurse says that she can see a big difference in my health between nights and days. Turns out sleep is important.
You find an answer, let me know, I'll do the same.

    1. Sleep medication for me is like a drink of water....and has the same affect. Perhaps tonight we'll both get a bit of sleep. Thanks, my friend.

  7. Stephen,

Okay, I'm having one of your nights...................unable to sleep. Now I'm working on a cup of chamomile tea, I'm hoping this will work. I'm wide awake, and need to get up early to return the rental car.....................
I hate these type of nights..........rambling here.................
