Are You Ready

Get your candles, Coleman lanterns, and kerosene for those great old Hurricane lamps. If you own a generator is the tank full. Check your fuel reserves. Fill the potable water barrel. If you need me to remind you of your personal safety then you've stumbled upon the wrong blog.

It'll be here, soon.

In my humble opinion one of these days the attackers will achieve their goal.

  1. One more reason I'm now off the grid. Even so, I've got gas lights and stoves too, because even an off grid system needs backup.

    1. Oh yes...a backup to a backup to a backup. The simple rule of three.

    1. Just mark my word - when and if it happens the power will die mid-August. Think of the heat and the critters. Best to stock a bit more ammo.

  4. I can run the ac off my generator and still have enough power left for lights, etc. I guess I need to top off my diesel tanks, though.

  5. I have a good generator but with a five ton unit it hasn't enough power to power it and five other circuits. At least we'll have fans.

  6. I read that too seems to be an awful lot of probing going on I think I know what that means. We shall see.

  7. Got solar panels and deep-cycle batteries enough to keep our comms running here. Have a Honda generator and enough gas to keep it running on a duty cycle sufficient to keep the fridge and freezer going for about three weeks.

  8. Good reminder. We've got our home wired for a generator . . . but need to get the generator .. which is only a short term solution. I think we'd be wearing two sets of clothes to cut down on laundry!

    1. I understand. Remember your grandmother's scrub board and large tin bucket....

  9. We're not worried about a summer-time situation here, but if it happened in December/January, during one of those -25 weeks ... things could get a mite chilly. Good thing we live on the edge of a forest; I need to get a better wood stove, and soon.

    1. If I were to rebuild my dream home it would have both a wood fired air-tight heater and a cookstove. I mentioned in one of the earlier comments if it happens here in the dead of summer we're screwed. Thanks, my friend.

  10. Have you got a window unit for the bedroom?

    1. No, but for the simple reason our bedroom has no windows, instead it has two large sets French doors. Other windows in our home are too narrow as they were designed for hurricanes. We do though have ceiling fans in every room of our house other than the kitchen. In times of stress I also use my Vornado fan, a faithful companion lo these many years.
