The Ultimate Survival Caliber
Argue until you're red in face but I believe the lowly .22 caliber long rifle rimfire cartridge is the ultimate survival caliber. Teamed with a Ruger 10/22 it can't be beat. This video proves the round is fatal out to 440 yards.
If you faced a long walk and had the option, which would you prefer to hump - five hundred rounds of .22 or five hundred rounds of any other caliber...think about it.

My husband saw this and winked and gave the thumbs up. This is what he has been saying for years and years. I, personally, carry a Beretta Bobcat on me at all times.

He is welcome into my clubhouse anytime....I've recently sold three Beretta's, one each of Jetfire, Bobcat, and the Model 22...all nice well made little pocket pistols. DeleteFor pure survival when you are the only predator to worry about. .22LR can't be beat. If I had to worry about something that might consider me a meal along with survival I think I would go with a 12 Ga. Shotgun. Ya the extra weight would suck though. But I like my quail and water fowl as much as squirrel and rabbit.

DeleteI think it would depend on who or what I might run into. The .22 LR ammo they have today, like Stingers, is pretty strong medicine and I wouldn't have any qualms about it if humans were the potential threat. But I think if it were bears or that great boogeyman of the forest, wild hogs, I'd rather have a British. 303 or an 8mm Mauser. My wife says that when it comes to choosing a rifle for something I am worse than a woman trying to choose a purse and a pair of shoes. She thinks the Morelocks will overrun us while I am still agonizing about which rifle to bring to the party.

DeleteParalysis by analysis. BTW, every hog I've shot dropped with a solid 60 grain slug to the head. Shot one three years ago with my Ruger Single Six...sucker dropped like a stone.
You had better have more than a .22 in a SHTF situation, that's for sure. If I carried two guns, then one would be a .22 though.

DeleteI am liking my new Smith and Wesson M & P .22. I guess because it is set up just like my AR, so shooting it keeps me proficient on the AR without expending the .223 ammo

DeleteI am pretty sure I could feed and look after myself with a 22. If I am going to be afoot carrying what I need long term, a 22 would be what i would carry as well.
