Just a Note

Late this afternoon I received a text from SW. She asked if we'd please have dinner out as she'd missed lunch. I said fine.

We both chose BBQ.

We arrive and are escorted to a booth. She orders turkey. I ask for a rack of ribs. She eats her turkey with a big smile. My ribs, suck.

They were, without a doubt, the most awful ribs I've ever tried to eat. Mushy, foul tasting pieces of crap. I wouldn't throw 'em to a dog. I knew I should have ordered the baby backs.

Me, all sad and stuff.

It's been a long day. At least there's a gunshow this weekend.

Stephen

    1. No. Pure awful. I came home and drank half a bottle of pickle juice to remove the foul taste. SW laughed. At me, she laughed. Oh well.

  2. Talk about coincidences. We went to Sonny's Barbecue. (Bad move, I know. But our options are thin)

I LOVE ribs, but these where large, dry, hard, hunks of meat that I could not tear off with my teeth.

    1. Sonny's isn't bad but its still a chain store...like the joint where we ate, Bono's. Hate 'em. I prefer the mom and pop places. Thanks, Sweet Lady...nice to 'see' you again. I do read you blog, just haven't left a comment in a while...forgive me.

  3. We have a good rib shack here, but it costs too much. $10.00 and all you get is a little bit of ribs and hush puppies and slaw. They used to do better but the guy who owns it says now he has to cut back on portions or charge more per plate. I guess I see his point but I'm cheap, so I make my own at the house.

    1. I like to fire ribs too, but time is precious some evenings. The closet rib shack to us is an hours drive from here....Thanks, my friend.

  4. Rarely get the ribs. When they are good, they are very good. When they are bad, they are awful. It doesn't take too many awfuls to make the goods go away.

  5. Stephen,

It's so hard to find a good BBQ's rib now a days. There was only one place in Texas where I really enjoyed the ribs. I can't find good ribs here in Oklahoma.

I have however found a really good BBQ sauce. When I'm not in the mood to make my own, I pick up Mr. Stubb's Honey Pecan BBQ sauce, omg.....it's so good.

Maybe if you go back to this place you should go with the Turkey like SW.

    1. Turkey, nah, not gonna happen....I like pork or beef. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the sauce. Thanks, Sweet Sandy.

  6. I feel your pain. Many restaurants here take advantage of the captive crowd (think "the nearest Krispy Kreme is 1,500 miles from here, so I'll settle for these crappy donuts"), and the quality is hit-or-miss. And you never know if it's a good day or a bad one for the cook until you order.

And BBQ locally? Horrible. That's why we have the grill: make our own.

    1. I'd never given it a thought, how your state has a captured crowd....but hey, you guys have great scenery. Thanks, my friend.

  7. Just read that people eating out collapsed in June I wonder why?.....
Harry I will go to a place that maintains quality even at higher prices, but I only eat out maybe once or twice a month at most.

I buy my own high end meats and seafood, when I can afford it and cook at home. No one cares more about making a quality meal for me than I do. If I screw up well it's just another lesson and I will need more practice.

    1. I do so love to cook, but I work six days a week and my evenings, most of the time, are brief and I'm always tired. SW works very long hours and when she's hungry, she wants her chow like NOW....so down the road we go.

  8. Funny, hubs invited me on a date tonight so I had him pick up bar-b-que for the girls. Big Sis ordered ribs and little one wanted turkey. Ribs were as dry as could be and the turkey was great. I think Big Sis was a bummed.

  9. Ive found that eating out has become more and more of a disappointment. Eating at home taste much better and is cheaper. My husband makes great ribs!
