My lovely wife has for the last week or so been tied to the Hallmark channel. She loves their Christmas shows.
A few moments ago I made the comment it might be nice if the writers made a few changes I would, perhaps, watch one. She asked what changes. I replied, well, cast a few normal actors. Perhaps an ugly bucktoothed fella or girl and make them poor. Have them live in the country, chew tobacco and pack rifles and handguns with a hog pen in the backyard.
Why make all the characters beautiful, wealthy, with castles for homes and a staff of twenty.
She turns to me and said, "Last week one show had a poor mother of two. She did not have a job and lived in her car. So there."
Tick, tick, tick...then I smartly said, "Yes, but she was still beautiful."
She gave me 'the look.'

Treading on dangerous ground there, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI know and it's fun...
DeleteI just ducked a can of mints.
You're going to lose that argument, my friend. My wife & daughter have been watching those movies for two weeks, and ... well, you can trust me on this one. :)
ReplyDeleteSadly, I agree.
DeletePokin' the bear sir, pokin' the bear . . . .
ReplyDeleteBear poked and it's fun...she's behind me isn't she.
DeleteYep, keep diggin... just keep diggin... :-)
ReplyDeleteI never knew she had such a mean right hand...
DeleteStephen,
ReplyDeleteWatch out man, your walking a fine line, lol.....
What is it with your girls...is Hallmark sacred ground.
DeleteI just love it that my lovely wife can watch her Christmas shows on her laptop with the earphones on. That way I don't have to watch the sappy shows.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't have to listen to me rooting for Scrooge to hold on to his priciples. Maybe he just needed a good exorcist.
And here I thought I was the only one rooting for 'ole Scrooge...I fully understand the man. A dobbin is a dobbin...
DeleteStephen,
ReplyDeleteAre you saying the Hallmark channel needs to do a dramatization of say - the book of Judges. Of course, it would not be very family friendly... but it does show God's love for people, warts, spare tires, bad behavior and all.
I am so glad we don't have cable. Even at the library, some of the videos produced by Christian and somewhat family friendly media are available, but they are so sugar coated that folks would need a shot of insulin after watching them.
Not really, Mrs. S., I'd just like to be able to watch a normal show with normal actors...not Gods and Goddesses of the stage. Thanks, my dear lady.
DeleteLiving dangerously are you?
ReplyDelete'the look'...
Oh, yes indeed. Thanks, my friend.
DeleteI'm lucky, the whole family loves sappy Christmas movies, even TSM:)
ReplyDeleteI do not mind a wee bit of sappy, but goodness, sugar coated is beyond me. Thanks, dear lady.
DeleteI always like British TV, because they had "normal" people in their shows. Even in commercials.
ReplyDeleteAgreed...great minds and all that...thanks, my friend.
DeleteIndeed, thanks, Bubba.
ReplyDeleteYou're hilarious. I suppose this means you're not a Downton Abbey fan. Truth be told .. I'm a traitor to my gender. I wouldn't know how to find the Hallmark Channel, but I know several wonderful women who are serious fans.
ReplyDeleteHa, Cathy, believe it or not I am a fan of Downton Abbey. Matter of fact I like quite a few British shows, my favorite is Doc Martin. I appreciate the fact they employ very good writers.
ReplyDelete(But please, my dear lady, let's keep this between us or otherwise I might lose my Dude Membership.)
Thanks, my sweet friend.
