Sorry for the lack of posts today. I was busy dealing with a broken main water line. It's been a long day and I'm tired. It was hard to sit in a chair and watch men work. It wore me out - really.
Job is done. One wonderful benefits of my profession is meeting and making friends with men in all types of professions...I have two excellent plumbers.
I have a "girl" question..how does one know when their water main broke. I was having water issues yesterday and think i have a leak (break?), but not sure. I'm sure posting this will make me look like a total idgit, but explaining all details will take too long.
KW, first I need to know if you are on 'city water.' If so, it's fairly simple. First, make sure all the water faucets in your home, toilets included, are not on. When you've made sure all water inside the house is not 'dripping' or running full bore, check all outside hose bibs (where you'd connect a hose) for same. Then, find your waters main meter (normally front yard near street). On the meter you should find a 'meter' or dial with a 'hand.' If this little sucker (hand, meter, needle) isn't moving you are fine. Watch it for a few minutes. If it is 'ticking' or rolling over, you have a leak. I was lucky, I heard my leak as it was located where the main line entered my home just outside the window where I was reading. It was quiet in the house. I had to dig a foot or so down (used my hands) and since it was located behind my air conditioner unit, it was quite a job, since I'm still sporting an open wound. Anyhow, hope this helps.
Hi! I just found your blog from a link on Mystic Mud and I had to click on that follow button, bookmarked and on my daily list of reading. Fantastic writing!
That's NEVER fun. I hope you get fully rested before tackling the remainder tomorrow.

DeleteWell - if it a city crew then you only watched 1 man work, while the others watched you watch him...
