  1. I just came home from the gun show (and scored a bunch of AR mags for $5 each!) to find your post. Thank you, very much thank you. Cave, the hubby, took me out to lunch after and I was thinking about you, SW and Little Bit while I ate my lowcountry shrimp. Gotta love local food.

    1. It was my pleasure, dear lady. AR mags for five dollars is a darn good deal. I'll take a crate at those prices. Thank you. And, you're welcome.

  2. I have a question for you Stephen. I added a Sig Sauer 9mm to my Colt .357. I much prefer the Colt because I feel a revolver is less complicated than a semi-automatic and presents fewer possibilities of mis-fire.

But WHY does my lighter 9mm carry as much kick as the heavier .357?

    1. I agree, a revolver is a less complicated means of self-defense. The reason your nine mil has such heavy recoil is due to its very lightness...weight reduces felt recoil. These little pocket pistols and revolvers punish you with 'kick' but give convenience with a small concealable package.

  3. Makes sense darlin'. I tried many semi's until I could find one I could slide and cock. The tiny ones scared me because I could envision my fingers (in an emergency) curling around the tip of the barrel. SO I bought a mid-sized 9mm that I could carry.

The .357 is my choice for indoor emergencies, but too cumbersome to carry.

    1. Almost missed your comment, sorry. The .357 is a fine choice for home defense, and I agree, to large to pack. Thanks, sweet lady.

  4. I'm not sure what the muzzle velocity on a .357 is, but I own a S&W 5906 and I DO know that the muzzle velocity on a .45 is approximately HALF that of a 9MM. Hence the kick of the 9. Along with, as Stephen says, the light weight. There are also some revolvers good for carry, the Ruger SP101 being one of them.

    1. Erinyes, you are correct, the SP101 is a good carry pistol. Thanks for dropping by, and please, don't be a stranger. Like your blog.
