Bits & Pieces

I feel my age this morning. I hurt. Somehow within the last few days I've caught an infection. The doctors office awaits. Anyway, I'm sure the doctor will prescribe one of his miracle pills and by the end of the week I'll feel like my old self.

According the the calendar it's winter here in Florida. It lies. Warm and humid out this morning. Fog as thick as cotton candy. I hate it. We've had, maybe, three days of winter this season. Climate change, don't 'ya know.

I came in this morning with an idea for a long post. Not gonna happen. Maybe tomorrow, or tonight. Just can't get comfortable. Mild headache.

Rambling, aren't I. Sorry.

There is an outside chance Little Bit's mother, her birth mother, will visit on Little Bit's birthday next month. That is if the stars are in alignment, the earth's crust doesn't shift, and purple rain showers develop out over the Gulf of Mexico. Little Bit hasn't seen her mother in over three years, so I'm not sure how I feel about this visit. What effect will it have on my grandchild when she has to say, goodbye.

Her mother has promised so much over the years and, as is her way, failed. She never follows through. This hurts Little Bit. I hope this isn't another. Little Bit is so excited. Her mother called Sweet Wife a couple of nights back and her mother and Little Bit spoke for close to an hour. She asked what kind of cake Little Bit wanted for her party. They spoke of gifts. Her time of arrival and by which means. Little Bit was jumping up and down with glee. Her mother lives in North Carolina. She has her problems, which we pray she will someday overcome. She really is a sweet person. But, she has her demons.

There is a hole in Little Bits' heart. It needs to be filled. I'm just not sure her mother is capable.

Sorry for the sad tone this morning. Like I said, I don't feel very well.

Stephen

    1. A few days back we were walking into the local Publix, she pulls my arm to hold me back and said, "You know what would be great, Papa. If I could live with you and Nana."
Lord, I wish. Thanks, my dear friend.

Feel better, my friend. Know that you're doing something that Little Bit will not ever forget. Miss Pickler has a different song about her Grandmother who raised her, "My Angel".

  4. My heart goes out to Little Bit and to you as grandparents. God Bless you folks for what you do to make her life better.

I have been trying to send some winter weather your way. As I said before, I would be more than happy to split the difference with you. I'm trying real hard, but I just don't have enough clout, I guess!

  5. I pray for healing for your body, and for Little Bit's heart, in Jesus' name. And for her mother, that the demons be stilled & expelled, balance restored, and the relationship repaired.

And for strength for you & your wife, while waiting for the above.

  6. All you can do is just be the best grandpa ever....be there to wipe the tears, hold her hand as she journeys through the tough times in life. I am a grand dad too.....I get it....

  7. Then you do understand...it rips my heart out, this feeling of helplessness. Thank you very much, My Friend.

  8. A bad situation and even though that particular hole may not be filled it seems as though Grandma and Papa at least bridge it.

More importantly it seems like she brings these things up to the conscious level when she talks to you about how she feels. So many people go wrong not because of what happens in their life but because they never really bring it to the front of their brain and think about it since that hurts too much.

Sounds like the seat of Papa's truck does more than any therapy couch.

    1. Great assessment, my dear friend...thank you. I'd never thought of my truck as a therapy couch, but indeed it is most mornings...

i know that you know all of this, dear friend, and i also know helpless you feel by not being able to fix this for her.

    your friend,

  11. Stephen, your family is in our prayers. And with grand parents like you and sweet wife. Little Bit is in good hands.
And, try not to worry about things that you can't control. God will do the right thing in his own time.
Just hold little Bit closer. And keep teaching her the way you both have.

    God Bless.

Grandma Miller helped me through many a tough time and she'll always be remembered for just loving me because I was me, no other reason. You are making a big difference in her life! Gotta stick around to see her results, pain or no pain.

  15. I don't know, that's a tough situation. Every little girl deserves a good mother. Sometimes, though, it is best they are not in the picture.
