My first seven dollar piece of chocolate last night. Serious. A seven dollar chocolate bar. Wrapped in a gold package, I suppose, to make me feel better.
It was a Christmas gift. I unwrapped the sucker and noticed the price was still on the bar. $6.99 for less than two ounces.
What a ripoff. I can still remember when ten ounces of chocolate candy, a huge bar, cost a nickle.
I was not impressed. I'll stick with Butterfingers.

you know - I've tried a lot of them too - the wife is a chocolate lover. from the foil wrapped little balls to bars...i'm actually more of a Payday peanuts n caramel kinds of guy...
ReplyDeleteJC, this niche candy is highly overrated. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is a chocolate fanatic as well. I always skip it myself.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big chocolate fan, unlike most of the women I know. I'd rather have a piece of homemade pie any day.
ReplyDeleteI got the nickel or so for chocolate as a kid, bought an Icee instead.
I admit I like good chocolate but it has to be reasonably priced enough or my Scotch nature wont let me enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Godiva chocolate! I only get it twice a year...my birthday and Christmas. It is the precious jewel of the chocolate world (IMHO). I savor each tiny bite....
ReplyDeleteI suppose it is a girl thing, lol!
PioneerPreppy, my wife isn't gaga over it and I'm too stuck in my ways, I guess, to appreciate fine chocolate. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBrigid, I'm like you - pie, cake, any pastry suits me fine. Thank you.
Odysseus, reasonably priced is the catch phrase...hard to find. Thank you.
Lamb, girls....'ya are so easy..thanks, Sweet Lady.
I'm a sucker for good chocolate, but I've never been impressed with Godiva.
ReplyDeleteRobert, it didn't impress me either. Then again, I think RC cola and moon pies are to die for....
ReplyDeleteA price like that it better have a golden ticket to the chocolate factory in it.
ReplyDeleteMDR, my thoughts too. Thanks.
ReplyDeletei've never been a chocolate fan but jambaloney is a conaisseur! but he likes the organic dark chocolate made from cocoa.
ReplyDeletei got some baker's chocolate over christmas and am going to try my hand at making candied ginger dipped in chocolate and lemon/orange rind dipped in chocolate. i'll let you know how it turns out!
your friend,
kymber
kymber, do that, and thanks.
ReplyDeleteMilky Way, nothing better. A friend brought me a Swiss candy bar back from Switzerland. I took it home but left it down too low. You guessed it my dog ate it. When the guy asked me how it was I said I have never had anything like it. I couldn't tell him.
ReplyDeleteI'm with the crowd that A. loves me some good chocolate and B. remain unimpressed with Godiva. I used to get some of their stuff from a local store and it just wasn't worth the price. Lindt is the way to go for some good chocolate. I got the wife some sea salt dark chocolate and we have yet to crack that open.
ReplyDeleteRob, I like a good Milky Way too. Baberuth (or is it, Babyruth) is right up there too. Thanks.
ReplyDelete45er, agreed, Godiva is highly overrated. Lindt, not sure if I've tried them. Thanks.
I buy it by the pound in Winco bulk food section. It is broken up slabs of chocolate that is about an inch thick and broken into all sizes up to a pound apiece. It costs about $3 a pound and is delicious. A couple of pounds lasts me about a week if I'm lucky.
ReplyDeleteAnon, good for you. I take it Winco is a western grocery store...wish I had one here. Thanks.
