The Blog Of The Week

I've had this idea bounce around my noggin for a few days now; why not spot-light one blog a week. Not just any blog, but one I feel doesn't receive the recognition it deserves.

I read a tremendous number of blogs daily. So much so I find myself screening out those that do not update on a regular basis. With this in mind I feel it's important that I bring to your attention those blogs, not only well written, but kept fresh, with lively stories, ideas, and with a personal touch. Give me something of your life, and for pete's sake, not one dimensional.

Cut and paste isn't original. One post a month and you've lost me. Fail to reply to my comments and you've hurt my feelings; I may indeed return but the enthusiasm to join in your subject or debate has been nullified.

My friend and fellow grandfather,  Flier389 qualifies. His blog, Granddad's Corner, is witty and intelligently written. Once in a while his lovely wife, Kathi, will post a recipe, which is close to my heart.

Please, run by and say hello and tell them Stephen sent you.

My friend deserves an audience.

Expect this 'Blog of the Week' to become a regular post and hey, let me know if you like this idea of mine, and if you feel there is a blog out there of which I'm unaware - let me know. I've a headache this morning and need some cheerful responses.

Thanks,
Stephen

  1. Good post, my thoughts exactly. I get lost when bloggers copy and paste long essays with no personal dialog. Comments are important to any post as well, it is good to get feedback especially if you have put time into a subject, you like to know what people think. And I like you feel it's important to reply to comments.

  2. Hope the headache goes soon.

    I think it's a great idea.

  3. I will just say that I don't always want to reply just for the sake of replying, only if I have something to add to the conversation.

  4. Duke, my friend, thank you. We think much alike, but of course you already know it.

Phelan, this headache is kicking my butt this morning...thank you for the feed back.

    mmasse, you're welcome. He's a good man.

bluesun, understand. I point is if someone takes the time to comment on a subject then I'll always reply in kind out of respect for the time they've taken to acknowledge my work. Thank yo for your comment.

  5. Some funny posts over at Granddad's Corner. I'm looking forward to the blogs you recommend.

I'm with Bluesun on the commenting: I do try to comment fairly often, but I don't always have something to add to the convo.

    I hope your headache's subsided.

  6. I'll often respond the next day for several reasons.

I often get comments late in the afternoon or early evening when I'm usually done with the computer for the evening. I'll continue to read some via my iPhone, but posting replies and comments is a major pain in the backside when it comes to that phone.

Occasionally, I get an odd comment that I'm not sure how to respond to. Those often get a generic response if I can't figure out the intent. Occasionally it will be flat out ignored. I don't think I should have to read someones mind, just sayin' ....

Sometimes, I won't respond to a post or a comment on a post if I find it irritating. Last night I saw a "questionable comparison" between Islam and Christianity. Why bother responding? I don't need the irritation. I just keep moving on.

Finally, in some instances, its apparent from the Bloggers general attitude that my comments aren't really wanted to begin with. They might have a good post worth reading, but again, why bother with the effort. Screw it!

  7. It's a good idea and I tried it for a while but ended with me getting emails wondering why they were not the blog of the week and it hurt peoples feelings so I stopped. Good luck to you.

  8. Kris, thank you. This headache is a booger. Anyway, don't all of you get upset over my 'reply to the comments' quote. I'm simply from the old Southern school of 'always use good manners.' Even a simple thank should suffice.

    Matt, understand and thank you.

MDR, I'll give it a try, feelings aside. Thank you.

  9. Kris, see, the headache....meant to say 'thank you, should suffice.'

  10. mmasse, just to be clear I wasn't thinking of you when I made my comments above, thanks

  12. Stephen I think blog of the week is a good idea. I don;t care if mine is chosen or not. Doesn't matter to me. If a blog is new and good why not let everyone know about it.

  13. Rob, thank you, and you never know which blog I randomly pick...

  14. Excellent idea! And I'm with you on the "cut and paste" thing, though I am guilty of it every now and then. But not too often!

  15. WOW! I'm honored, and want to thank you. And all the others out there. Some times I just kind of ramble along. I enjoy telling stories, some true, and some maybe not so true. I like being able to put a smile on the face's of the people that visit my blog. And I try to keep it interesting as well.
Reading other blogs out there is kind of like a BIG family. You never know what you will find, or what's being talked about. If you come to my blog. And have something to ask. let it rip. I try to blog every day. And I will answer all comments, good and bad.
So, thanks Stephen, it's hard to make me blush. And you just did it.

  19. Dear Stephen - i am not sure when i first found Flier and Kathi - but i have thoroughly enjoyed their posts and emails with them - they are some really good people and i am glad that you have "spotlighted" them here. oh and Flier does tell some funny stories!!!

anyway - i like the idea of blog of the week. and i think that a man of your stature in the blog world can pull it off - we all know that you won't recommend garbage or fluff - and if a blog comes recommended by you - i am sure that we will all check it out. that is - if we don't already have them listed in our blogrolls - teehee!

i hope your headache is better. here's a crazy thing to try and it works. when you get a headache, rub an ice-cube between your thumb and pointer finger (first finger after thumb). keep rubbing the ice-cube there until you can't stand it anymore or it melts. your headache will lighten up. this is ancient Korean medicine that my Korean teacher taught me. and it works!

    your friend,
    kymber

  20. kymber, what's this, 'man of your stature' stuff. Heck, I've only had this blog for a wee bit over five months. Stature belongs to others like you or Tam or - well you get it...but thank you very much...
Ice between my fingers...might need to try it. Probably work better if I'd drop the cube into a bloodymary. Thank you, sweet lady.
