Our Irish peat briquettes arrived today. We have six in the fireplace and they burn nicely with a sweet scent. Brings back nice memories. I lit the fire with a few sticks of Southern fatwood. You need a good solid base of coals on which you pyramid four to six blocks of turf.
Ireland Earth ships the turf in twenty-five pounds boxes.
Jess, I've been in heaven all evening...think I'll pour another cup of tea and a few biscuits. My wife has had a smile on her face for the last two hours.
Time to get your Dutch oven out and do a wee bit of cooking on the fire. Maybe a nice Irish stew. Or, a couple of beef pies. And maybe just a wee splash of scotch in your tea.
Bubba, if I had a fireplace like that in the video I'd probably try my Dutch oven....alas mine is far too small for such a job. I do make a mean peach cobbler over a campfire. Thanks.
kymber, well, hello little girl. Boots, bahahahah....
dear sweet one - i've just caught up on all of your previous posts that i miss and i just want to say that i am glad that you are back and posting like a nutter...and i was really hoping for a pic of a ponytail on the back of your head!!! oh well, the cut looks really nice! lots of love to you and Sweet Wife!
Thank you, Sweetheart....awful busy here and I'm so very sorry I did not send a Christmas care...but then again, we sent exactly zero cards this year. Between my illness and business I just didn't feel like it. Thanks, again, to Jamie for the nice little spinner. It hangs from my keyring. Love to you both.
Nice. A wee bit o Ireland in the fireplace.
ReplyDeleteWe have really enjoyed tonight. Makes the house smell good. Thanks, PP.

ReplyDeleteYou'll like it. I believe I'll try and find another supplier and try have a few shipped from the UK or Ireland.
DeleteI always thought burning dirt was awesome
ReplyDeleteIsn't it though....the turf (peat) burns with one-third the heat of coal, a hot slow fire. Thanks, Corey.
DeleteI demand you install the Smell-O-Vision widget in Blogger right now and ...
ReplyDeleteOh. Right. insert sad face here
I'll try and bottle a bit and send it your way....the cat has made her bed next to the fire...she won't move.
DeleteI second Rev. Paul's request!!!
Deletei THIRD Rev. Paul's request....don't make me have to get the boots out!!!! bahahahahah!
DeleteI'll bet you could pour some whiskey over them and turn it into scotch...
ReplyDeleteNow that is a good idea.
DeleteI'm thinking of a good scotch, a plate of fresh cookies and the smell of burning peat in a warm room. That's kinda of like going to Heaven.
