I searched and searched. Isle after isle. I threw in the towel and like a good boy moved towards the front of the store and raised my hand for help.
Finally, a young man walks over and asked if he could be of assistance. I asked where they'd hidden the pate. He mumbled. I said, "Excuse me?"
"What's 'dat?"
I explained. Then repeated my request to five other store employees and one manager after I gave each an education in liver pate.
How sad. The number one food market in the state and a regional manager asked what one ate with a liver paste. Said he'd never in his life heard of pate.
Then again, I'm fairly certain he voted for Obama.
I just ordered a case of Sell's at Amazon.com.
Stephen
Sad, but hardly surprising given what 100+ years of Progressive/NEA "change" has done to our schools.
ReplyDeleteThere used to be posters & bumper stickers to the effect of "If the Russians had done to our schools what we've done on our own, we'd have declared war on them."
Very good point. What's really sad is this store (Publix) actually stocked the item for years. Then they did one of those 'let's shuffle all the products to different locations' things....
DeleteThanks, my friend.
Ok....what is liver pate?
ReplyDeletePardon my ignorance, I was raised on southern FRIED chicken.
Hope things are well with ya...
Pate is a spread. Made of, traditionally, swine liver and other herbs with high butter content. It's good. Spread on your choice of cracker. A French product. Thanks, Bubba.
DeleteEver had Livermush, Stephen?
ReplyDeleteNever, but I shall find a batch. Thanks, my friend.
DeleteYou could just make a batch; it isn't that difficult to make. If you happen to do some deer hunting, homemade venison pate is yummy, but you have to be generous with the butter when sauteing the onions and liver, because the venison liver is usually quite lean. Nevermind that liver is still on the no-no list with your cardiologist, right?
ReplyDeletePoor man's pate is made from beef liver and is called braunschweiger up here. (Not sure if I spelled it correctly.)
I have never actually tried the gourmet stuff made from the oversized livers from force-fed geese. Enjoy! You only live once.
The goose liver product is usually referred to, foie gras. http://www.lepanierfrancais.com/foie-gras-palme-dor-128gr/?gclid=CJvQ5se66LYCFWcOOgodpgwArw.
DeleteIt too is very good. My cardiologist can go stuff himself....
Thanks, Dear Lady.
Living out here in the woods, I'm glad when the closest store has even fairly everyday items.
ReplyDeleteExactly...thanks, my friend.
Deletesweet one - Mrs. S. above is right! fresh-made venison, chicken or beef liver pate is to die for! i always make my own - yell if you want the recipe. i put caramelized onion in the actual pate, but i also make a ton extra to lay on top of the pate, too. i love pate with onion bagels - yummeh! hope you enjoy yours!
ReplyDeleteyour friend,
kymber
I'll eat pate on about anything....bagels sound great, and yes, I'd like your recipe. Thanks, sweet one.
Deleteheh. I just "saved" my husband from the "evil cholesterol" by finishing off the last of the braunschweiger in the fridge yesterday... but he got some goose pate on a trip to the gun store. Didn't ask how far out of his way he had to go to make that happen.
ReplyDeleteVenison liver pate sounds wonderful; if we get a deer this fall, I'll look forward to making it!
You're a good wife, Sweet Lady.
DeletePate is fancy pants liverwurst. Or if you are from Brooklyn, hoity toity liverwurst.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how 5 workers in a grocery store don't know what pate is, including the manager. Seems like at least one of them would have stumbled across it since it was on their shelves. Better check the date of use if you buy a can of it in Publix.
Dick...not one can in stock. They removed it from inventory. Thanks.
DeleteHoly cow, next you will be telling me Kmart doesn't sell guns and ammo anymore.
ReplyDeleteGuess what....
DeletePate is one of those items that once I get the craving I can't stop thinking about until I've thoroughly satisfied myself. What do you think is on my mind now?
ReplyDeleteI'm very much the same...now I must wait. Thanks, Dear Lady.
