A Little Christmas Surprise

We received a Christmas surprise, a gift if you will from our son. A picture.

Christmas Eve, we packed our gifts to Little Bit and her little brother and with the cover of darkness quietly pulled into our son's driveway and I jumped out and placed the gift bags on his front porch.

For those of you in the know, you'll understand. We were in and out within seconds.

We then spent a lonely Christmas day together. Sweet Wife spent most of the day in tears.

Then, this:

Her picture arrived via text message. You must understand, we haven't seen her for seven  months. We were shocked at how much weight she has lost. She's so very thin. Little Bit has always been tiny but  now, excuse my language, but damn. Still, we're thrilled.

In the photo she holds a doll from her Nana. The son only sent the one picture.

But, there she is, my Little Bit, my heart.

Later.

Stephen

  1. Oh my goodness. She is growing. Just the one picture. It must be like getting a diamond. I cannot imagine what you are going through. On the worst day I could not imagine keeping my angels away from their grandma and paw paw. If for no other reason than their own sake.

    1. 45er, yes she has grown. Kinda freaks me out..as they say. She'll be eight in February. I miss her. Indeed, when you said, 'keep the angels away,' he only punishes her. Thanks, my friend.

  4. Oh Stephen ... She's just getting more beautiful as the days go on & on. ... I bet she misses you more than you can imagine. ... At least they decorated. ... She looks like she needs a hug & a kiss from you ... but still looks like a satisfied child ... which I hope makes you happy.

    1. Thanks, Sweetheart. Yes, she has grown more beautiful and I'd love to give her a big hug. Other than her weight loss, I am happy for her.

  5. I'm so glad you got that picture. It saddens me to know just how much pain all three of you are in. I know there are no words I could use to describe your son or this situation that you haven't already thought. Still, she's beautiful and she's grown a lot.

  6. Stephen my friend, you and Sweet Wife did the right thing by driving at night, and delivering presents for your grand kids. It was decent that your son sent the picture of Lil Bit.
Give him time, he will learn what an ass he was.
Lil Bit is so pretty in this picture, and growing up so fast. You can see on her face she's very happy to have received the gifts from her Nana and Papa.

    1. I can be a sneaky booger. At his rate of maturity I'm not sure we have the time to wait. She has grown so much in such a short period of time. We wrote sneaky notes on her gifts too, in hopes, only she'd find and read them. Thank you, Sweet Sandy. All our love.

    1. A crack...I hope and pray it to be true. Not only for Little Bit's sake but for her grandmother. Thanks, my friend.

  10. So glad your son passed the gifts on to the grandchildren. It might just be the camera angle, but it seems like she has grown quite a bit taller. Maybe it is just a growth spurt that is making her look thin. Continued prayers that things will improve.

    1. Not sure. She appears taller but photos aren't the best indicators. I hope you're correct about the growth spurt. Thanks, dear lady.

  11. Glad she got the gift, and you got the picture. May something grow from that small start...

Speaking of growing, has she hit a growth spurt? She may be thin from just having converted weight to height.

    1. To answer your question, I simply do not know for sure...her thinness upsets me. Thanks, my sweet friend.

  13. So good that that little crack appeared. And are you sure she's not just shooting up in height rather than losing weight?

    1. It's possible but I sincerely doubt it...her father is a health nut and forbids her portions larger than a pea pod of her dinner selections. Thanks, my friend.

  14. Oh Stephen,
This brought tears to my eyes. It's a start. And you know SHE KNOWS the gifts were from you and you have not abandoned her. My son was not allowed to even know about the letters and gifts I sent him - so insane was my ex. But now, as a grown man, my son chooses to live a mile away from me, instead of across the country with his Dad. Time wounds all heals :)

    Blessings,
    Red

  15. Well done, Stephen. At one point, the Grand Canyon was but a little trickle of water in an otherwise dull, flat landscape.

    Persevere.

  16. So happy for you and Sweet Wife. Lil Bit got her presents from ya and I'm sure that made her quite happy. I agree with some of the others. . . And especially with her birthday in February--its a Growth Spurt!! She is taller and it just makes her look a little thinner. Maybe this can start up some kind of communications with the Son. That is the best news seeing you have a picture of her. Keep having faith. You and yours are In My Prayers. I hope she was told the picture was going to Papa and Nana.
