Shrimp for Lunch

I blame lunch on DFW. She gave me a gift of shrimp this past week. It was so good I got to 'thinking' about it this morning. Faced my demons and jumped into the truck and drove through the rain to the seafood market and grabbed a couple of pounds of the largest fresh Mayport shrimp they had on ice.

After a quick rinse I shelled, butterflied and removed the black line and within minutes had them in a saute pan with a bit of olive oil, butter,  garlic, and Cajun spice.

Slap 'ya mama good. Even took a picture for Sixbears, knowing how he misses Florida seafood and is now reduced to potatoes and pancakes.





When Sweet Wife arrived home from a morning of shopping, she smiled and sniffed and asked if I'd saved her a few shrimp. She even gave me a kiss.

  2. A Spinach salad with tomatoes and cukes and red onion. A dipping sauce. French bread. Few Norwegians and no Swedes eat this well...thanks, my dear lady.

  3. I'll take the blame.

    That looks delicious! We didn't get to eat what we had so we froze it to enjoy later. There is nothing better than FRESH shrimp. The next best thing is fresh frozen that you know has nothing sprayed on it, to keep it longer.

  4. *sigh* I live in Florida too and the closest I've gotten to real "Florida seafood" is Red Lobster.

    1. Hit the waterfront areas. Look for those little 'seafood markets' or shops. If you're close to the coast they should be everywhere. Good luck and thanks dear lady.

    Good thing there's a place down the road that does justice to Maine Lobsta!

  7. Yep Florida seafood is to die for. Looks good but shrimp is so much prep work.... But still worth it :)

    1. It takes me about ten minutes to zip off the shells off two pounds, another five or so to remove the line on the very largest shrimp. I don't bother to butterfly the smaller sizes. Now, if you don't mind shelling them it's easier to just boil the shrimp with a good dose of seasoning, such as a crab boil. Shells come off in the blink of an eye after they're boiled. Thanks, my friend.

  8. we love shrimp on the barbie - yummeh! and we are so fortunate to have fresh fish and seafood at our beck and call! i love to do grilled shrimp and then a simple spaghettini with olive oil and garlic - dump the shrimp into the pasta - deeeevine! yours look delicious! i think we're having grilled shrimp and pasta for supper today - woohoo!

    1. That sounds so good. I've done shrimp in a tomato based sauce in the past and need to do so again soon. Thanks, sweet kymber. Nice to live on the Atlantic coast isn't it. In a week or so I'll be over on the Gulf and will have clams.

  9. Don't want to even hear about it!!! That looks so good. When you live 1000-1500 miles from any coast, it is just damn hard to get good seafood.

    Glad you guys enjoy the critters ... My Mom & Dad lived on a boat back in the 40's and always ate them.
    I gag on 'em! (BUT they do make good fish bait) LOL

  11. Shrimp and salmon are the only two seafood things I like but I could eat them about every day. That looks REALLY yummy.

  12. I absolutely love good shrimp. We did them three ways last time and they were all good. Rolled in panko bread crumbs and fried, grilled and steamed over water with spicy liquid boil in it. Yum. Makes me want to run out and get some more.
