So Be It

This truly saddens me. I have now been labeled a bigot. So be it.

Hello, Stephen. I have been reading your blog for a nice long while now, and am sending best wishes for you quick recovery.

However, I have just removed your blog from my reading list, because of this post. Not because you are not correct to remnd us all of the dangers in our world today, but because I have no respect for anyone who attacks another person based on their appearance. You have no information on this family's situation, yet you chose to assume that the father was a bad parent because he didn't take his child to school, and that said bad parenting was because of his weight. It was a bad decision on your part, and in the end I cannot remain in support of a blog which condones bigotry. You may not see it now, but any prejudgement based on appearance is bigotry, whether it be skin color, disability, or weight. I am very disappointed in you, and even though you are recovering from an illness right now, this time of reflection may be helpful.
I truly hate to lose followers. I believe this dear lady missed the main point of my post. Interesting, none the less. The post is here.

  2. Sorry - missed a big typo.

Kris" calls you a bigot, while hiding behind a unknown blogger account with no personal information or a blog to take the discussion back to his or her home turf.

There's a lot of people on the web that would label someone like that a coward or a troll. Like "bigot" nasty names and also, like in your case, probably undeserved.

Don't let it bother you, you are anything but and you've not lost worth worrying about

    1. Sweet Lady, my typos are legendary..no sweat. She has a blog but for the life of me I can't remember its title/name. Oh well, liberals. It truly doesn't bother me all that much..I just hate losing a reader over their misinterpretation of my words. Thank you, Sweet Brigid.

  3. 1. I just want to point out for everyone that this isn't me who called you a bigot :)

    2. Any time anyone expresses an opinion, someone else in this world will be offended by it. It's just how it is.

    1. Kris, I know. The moment I saw her little picture of the shoes I recognized the person. And, you're correct, it's hard to please all the people all the time. Heck, if I were to delete blogs based on their content, my list would be limited to one or two...then their next post makes me smile...such is life. Thanks, Kris.

  4. mmasse, you do indeed, get it. Like I've said before, I don't give a good damn if he's fat or not..he should have walked that child to school or last the very least driven her. Thanks.

  5. Missed the point of the post most entirely, and if we can't get together about take care of children the world becomes very dark.

I would advise Ms. Watson to stay well away from my blog because if this offends her she likely wont survive even skimming mine, I've got something to offend just about everybody.

  6. Yes she did, my friend. Like you if she truly wants to be offended, I could curdle her milk rather quickly. Thanks, my friend.

  7. You're in good company, Stephen. Me too, I got called a bigot for making a comarison between forbidden things in 2 religions, mine, and Judaism. And, sometimes you can judge a book by it's cover. Like the misguided youth in the red had with "Crip Killer" on his forearm. I'm inclined to be prejudgemental. Should I interview every Tom, Dick, and Harry who approaches me to see what their "situation" is?

    1. Well said...I've a feeling our Ms. Kris Watson has weight issues. I believe she wasn't so much offended by the content of my post as she was I used the term 'fat butt.' We're all inclined to prejudgemental, it's only human, but I'm not the type to measure a man or woman by their appearance. It's no different than a person, upon their first sight of me, judging me as a treat because I 'look mean.'

  8. Stephen, you called the man out on why his daughter was almost kidnapped. If you take your comment for face value does he or does he not have a fat butt? How you get labeled a bigot for pointing out the obvious is really a shame. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Kris if you read this please don't stop over at my blog, its alot worse than this one.

Fear not, Stephen, the trolls are on every blog - they just want to be noticed. There are a lot of blogs out there: if you don't like them, don't read 'em!. Some are just so darn funny (and sometime funky) that I have to go check in several times a day. I am not offended. Others, like yours, make me feel better about mankind because it is written by a truly good person who knows what love is all about...and in this tough world we can never have enough loving!
Thank you for sharing your world with us - we are so, so lucky!

  10. I find it incredible that so many people refuse to understand the difference between pointing out a person's physical characteristics and attacking someone for those characteristics.

I got your point, if he is that concerned about her safety, why isn't it walking her to and from school every day.

You aren't attacking his physical nature but his mental attitude of laziness.

Her call of prejudgment is a little off base since you referred to this one particular person after something happened.

Maybe I'm confused about what 'prejudgment' means.

  11. Hi Stephen,

I wanted to tell you I enjoy reading your blog (I found it via Rural Revolution), and you have my get well soon prayers. I don't comment very much on any blogs, but I just wanted to tell you that.

You mean all you have to do to be labeled a bigot anymore is call someone a fat a**? Sheesh, that was kind of beside the point of your post, wasn't it?

    God Bless,
    Jane in NC

    1. Jane, thank you and welcome. I've gained so many nice readers from Patrice's blog. She's one of my all time favorites and a wonderful woman. Her husband Don is a great guy too. They helped launch my blog, I can never repay them for all their kindness. Yes, the poor lady did miss my point. God bless you and please, hang around.

  12. Bubba, I know you better than anyone who has posted here and know you don't "judge" ANYONE by their looks but rather by their actions or in-action's, I don't really like the word 'judge' in this case, it's more discernment to see good and bad, we get that from experience and studying people.

  13. Stephen, everything everyone else has said - I don't know what else I could add, other than another "I got your point" in that post and didn't misunderstand. Don't sweat it, and I know you're not, but you have way important things to worry about right now. Get well soon:) xo ~ michele

  16. dear. me. people are out of control these days!

sometimes, if i stumble across a blog that has content that offends me, i go somewhere else. and if that person only has one or two posts that offend me, i keep reading for the quality content. and if i find a blog that always offends me, i stop reading.

i know. i was diagnosed a genius at birth.

  18. Um. Well. Um. I know that here an adult has to be waiting at the bus stop with kids in the morning and to pick them up in the afternoon.

Even before the law required it I waited with my daughter in the morning and for her in the afternoon. The world is a dangerous place. Attacking a child is just one more "choice" in a world that demands the freedom of any choice that is desired.

  19. Stephen, I had commented on the post and saw the comment in my email. After the initial confusion, I did my very best (as I mentioned to you) to try and comment from my phone. I had a great one written and I will still post it, though now late since I'm on my home computer (finally). I hate my phone. Keep plugging along, we know the real you.

  20. Thanks for effort and comment, my good friend. I owe you.

  21. Yup - Kris certainly missed the point. Providing ongoing and continuous protection for our little ones is of paramount importance these days, no matter what country you are in.

And I reckon that it IS because of his physical condition that he doesn't walk his (step)daughter to school and back. So - where is the bigotry?

    1. Dani, it beats the heck out of me. To just label a person, bigot, over an observation is beyond my comprehension. Thank you very much, my dear friend.

  22. Senior has known you since before we had kids...which the oldest being 6. so thats been a pretty long time, probably longer then anyone else in this entire bloggerpshere. I can't recall a time when I ever thought you were a bigot. And yes I agree that she missed the point of the article and post. But no matter how bad it may be, at least you didn't get "the finger" from the old black ( errr african-american) lady.. : ) and a long the lines of what Matt said.. "Sigh"....

  23. Goodness... What a works we live in. When a man can't state the obvious without offending someone. Once upon a time, Everyone would have agreed with you. After all, what's more important, the safety of the child? Or "labeling" someone???
