  2. One thing I've done is to LABEL all my ammo cans with what's inside. I just used a Sharpie as I cleans off with a wipe of solvent if I want to use that can for something else later
There's no way I want to paw through 10 cans finding what I need!

  3. Matt, my reply to your comment without commentary is also without commentary to your comment.

drjim, I do much the same. I've ammo cans up to here (see me reach high above my head) all marked as you do.

mmasse, smart move on the mags.

Thank you each for the comments.

  5. Some good ideas, I just hope he has a LOT more ammo. Three boxes of 308 ????
In the desert we always carried 180 rounds on our person (6, 30 round mags)

  6. I've got about twenty-five ammo cans in total, all labeled. The ten I mentioned are in the house, and the balance in the garage, propped up off the floor, and covered with a tarp.

  7. Mudbug, kymber, okay, be that way....and thanks.

Duke, isn't it a fact...I believe at last count my 7.62x51 (military version of the .308 for you none gunnys) was 10-12 thousand, I think.

drjim, good start...keep it up. Thanks.

  8. I wouldn't call that a stockpile. I'm hoping this was just a small representation of a larger stock. I'm with others in the comments, I use a label-maker with plastic labels and ammo cans. Everything is stored in those for quick and easy access and grab-and-go capability. I do keep a box of what I'm using to hunt for a particular season in my hunting bag as a kind of working stock. Then again, that bag would be going with us, too if we had to go.

  9. 45er, neither would I, and it isn't. I like this young man and I believe he's doing good work by posting his videos, and I'm in his corner as he seems to 'get it.' I like to post his videos to get others out there an example from which to work towards their goals. But, do more....

  10. Excuse me, meant to write - 'give others.' Not get. Time for coffee.

  11. Yep, at least he's out there actually DOING something, and sharing it with others.
That's way better than some people I know who a) haven't stored any food, b) haven't stored any ammo or parts, c) haven't done much of anything but play Keyboard Kommando and run their mouth!
I don't have a lot, and we call it our "Earthquake Supplies", but I add a bit each week. Couple of cans of chili, some tins of corned beef, some cans of veggies, and you'd be amazed how fast you can get a decent amount of stuff stockpiled.
Oh, and if you have pets, don't forget them! They need to eat and have some treats, too!

  12. drjim, good for you, and thanks. If I may offer a suggestion, try Emergency Essentials. It's possible to purchase case lots of number ten cans of dried/dehydrated foods for under two hundred and they store for thirty years or more.
I buy my canned goods by the case. Fills the 'ole pantry quickly.

  13. Thanks for the tip. I really should have some big cans of stuff like that in my supplies.
What do you do for water? I have some filtration kits and a couple of 25 gallon containers I rotate, but if THSHTF really bad, water will be critical.
    I keep remembering "Gunga Din"!

  14. drjim, I keep several 55 gallon blue barrels (food grade) in different locations around my home filled, and treated. At our BOL, we have two deep wells and a river. It is good to own two or three different filtration systems too. Remember, redundancy is your friend. Always think the rule of three - a back up to a back up.....
