I'm thinking if that's all he done he should have spent the video camera money on food instead. Yes, it's a start, but not really worth putting up on YouTube as a "see what I've accomplished" video.
Now someone like Arsenius's stash was pretty cool to see. White buckets of food everywhere.
Matt, I agree...he has far more fishing equipment than food. But, it's a start. I'm willing to bet he's far ahead of the average 'mushroom' walking the streets of most of this countries streets.
PioneerPreppy, agreed..thanks.
kymber, now you know I'd never make fun of someone, really.
Matt, lessons are best dished out with a straight face.
Come on now... I'm guessing we were all there at one point. Hard to fault the guy for trying. That being said, I don't think I'd post that video either, knowing how far I still had to go. He'll get there, assuming the s does not hit the f first.
MDR, I can see it from people like you, and a few others that have had this issue with friends, especially family.
But we are all human here, except for MudBug and he's a Klingon. I think it was last night I saw a post where at least 3 people I read faithfully were being very critical about those who post about politics and Israel and all that "trash" as someone else called it, and how another gets "turned off" by too much of it.
MDR, my good friend. I wasn't coming down on the guy. If you'll remember I said I like him. I posted this video to say, "It's not enough." I applaud his efforts. Perhaps it came across wrong, and for that I'm sorry. His video struck me as if he were saying, Hey, look what I've done and I'm ready...now, that was how I saw it...I just wanted to point out, no it's not enough. Again, I'm not making fun of him. Thanks, and sgain, sorry if it came across wrong.
MDR - i am very sorry if this post hit a nerve in you. i think Stephen was being a bit "tongue in cheek" as i felt the rest of us were. we were just having some fun and no one was being mean or obnoxious. but if it hit the wrong nerve - well, you let it be known and everyone came back and explained. this group is the best group of people i have found on the internet in the last 8yrs or so... - please don't feel hurt or offended. we were just being d*cks!
often these things are an issue of prioritization, the guy has spent o lot of time/energy on organization and, well, yes, the video. he IS trying and i can empathize with MDR's feelings. I also see that the video is a little long and detailed for what the guy has really accomplished. and letting off a bit of steam is good, maybe it is at the expense of this guy, maybe he deserves a bit of ridicule, not really important in the long run
one of our problems in an online community is that we can only share/post our accomplishments, strengths and weaknesses online. our ability to appreciate the true strengths of others can get lost a bit in translation. if we all lived together on one plot of land, some of these misunderstandings would go away.
i would certainly let this guy organize our food stores, but maybe not so much determine what they were and how much they should hold.
and we would all benefit GREATLY from a solar bathhouse, so MDR, don't give that a second thought. if "cleanliness is next to godliness", then you are prepping on that front big-time!
we can all agree to disagree sometimes, we're all friends, eh?
Matt, my dear friend and buddy - please don't feel offended that i said that too much political stuff "turns me off". it is not a stab at anyone who posts political stuff - it is just not something i want to read all of the time. and please note that i read every single one of your posts and every single article that you post - but i just don't often comment as i usually have nothing relevant to add.
as an example - i created a new blog for the Framboise Manor Good Eats - a recipe blog. i know that most of these old curmudgeons (like Mudbug) don't care for posts about recipes. so i am not going to post any more recipes on the Framboise Manor blog.
so please understand that i appreciate the info that you share on your blog - but i don't always have a relevant comment. and i really hope that you weren't hurt when i said that too much political stuff "turned me off". it was not directed at you. at all.
You know kymber, although I cringed a little at Stephen's comments I didn't really feel the need to get upset and complain about it. Not upset at you either. Different strokes for different folks.
I brought it up here to show that we can't take everything so serious that we get upset over it. Everybody says things at times and those that read such things can't let it get to them. It'll just make you miserable.
Kymber, as all this happened on this blog and not mine, I think I will delete your comment over on my blog. I don't feel the need to drag all this over there. It started here and I'd like for it to stay and end here.
Well I must admit it is a start but wow they must be in really good health to eat all that high sodium stuff. I'm surprised he didnt have any snacks stocked up. No noodles either...hmmm. Guess he's going to be eating pickles with a little Ragu on the side and corn. Sorry just couldnt resist.
To all my friends...we're okay. We all, me especially, say or write 'things' with good intentions and far too often the words come back to bite them in the rear. True friends, which I believe we all are, over look these small infractions and continue to hold the line. Please, smile and place all the blame on me...after all, I posted this video.
Thank you each for the comments, and Denise, thank you too. Nice to have you back.
Glad everyone has worked out there relationships on here! I have a serious question to ask,as I am a little new to some of this! I grew up with boys, which sometimes can be misunderstood, I got used to it. My thing here on this blog--is when I read for the Fun of it. I don't know-what is intended=something really fun to do or the other ya have mentioned. I liked the video, but if he is not that prepared as far as enough food..do any of ya have pictures of your stash? I have heard the buckets and mylar mentioned. But is it not a good thing to have those canned goods. Cause the dates will expire? Let me know, I am curious. I am young and learning, no where near ready, but trying. I really liked this guys video on the cooking. Thanks for your help!
Kingturkeyoak, short answer, if I write about survivalism, it's serious. I seldom joke, really.
I seem to have posted this article without thinking about my words...started a poop-storm. For instance, on another friends blog I wrote the word 'trash,' in reference to the OWS movement...some read that to mean 'politics.' My lack of coffee sometimes gets me in trouble. Like now...it's early, barely sunrise so I should shut 'da heck up. Thanks...
Okay, now, on the food stash. It's hard to post pictures of my food stores, it's scattered. I'm the founder of a 'support group,' and I have items at our BOL, and at home. I'll need to think on it. Thanks. Like the Monkey BTW...please, if you haven't, hit my follower button.
Kingturkeyoak, sorry it's taken me so long to answer...we do both. When I say both, we also home can meats and vegetables, and buy dry bulk items and seal in Mylar within buckets.
kingturkeyoak - we do the same as Stephen - we do both. but when you are first starting out it is easier to do cans of stuff. especially if you see a good sale on campbell's chunky soup or something like that. once you build that up, then you start buying the actual ingredients - like flour, rice, beans, etc. and then you buy real food - like broccoli, lettuce, mushrooms ,etc. and you freeze, smoke or dehydrate those things for future use.
if you have any more questions, please email me at kymberzmail@gmail.com
i will be more than happy to help you out and point you to some blogs who can explain it better than i.
i am very glad that you are getting into prepping/survivalism!
I'm thinking if that's all he done he should have spent the video camera money on food instead. Yes, it's a start, but not really worth putting up on YouTube as a "see what I've accomplished" video.
ReplyDeleteNow someone like Arsenius's stash was pretty cool to see. White buckets of food everywhere.
Yep a love those wall of bucket pictures same as Matt. Thats some prepping!!!!
ReplyDeleteteehee....i feel really bad giggling.... Stephen - stop poking fun and making us laugh. it's not christian!
ReplyDelete(*goes off giggling*)
your friend,
kymber
Sure it is, Kymber. He's using Humor to preach to us about being prepared. It's a Biblical subject. ;)
ReplyDeleteGeez...that's like a weeks worth of food.....MAYBE!
ReplyDeleteMatt, I agree...he has far more fishing equipment than food. But, it's a start. I'm willing to bet he's far ahead of the average 'mushroom' walking the streets of most of this countries streets.

drjim, with his family, maybe.
Come on now... I'm guessing we were all there at one point. Hard to fault the guy for trying.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, I don't think I'd post that video either, knowing how far I still had to go.
He'll get there, assuming the s does not hit the f first.
keangnt, agreed. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteADD or ADHD? He is farther along then me, but to break it down even more? I would not post an online video, and give you guys something to laugh at?
ReplyDeletemmasse, agreed and thanks.
ReplyDeletemmasse, okay, if you say so I believe you, but why?
Rob, he's further along than most of America...
Wow, MDR. I think we can also carry it to the other extreme as well and be too serious about it.
ReplyDeleteI for one read your post and see a guy that is "getting it done"
MDR, I can see it from people like you, and a few others that have had this issue with friends, especially family.
ReplyDeleteBut we are all human here, except for MudBug and he's a Klingon. Hey, we ALL do it.

ReplyDeleteAgain, I'm not making fun of him. Thanks, and sgain, sorry if it came across wrong.
Steven like I said, I apologize for even bringing it up. I should have hit the delete button.
ReplyDeleteAnd Matt my buddy, you are comparing apples to oranges in you analogy.
Ok boss.
ReplyDeleteMDR, no big deal...
ReplyDeleteMDR - i am very sorry if this post hit a nerve in you. i think Stephen was being a bit "tongue in cheek" as i felt the rest of us were. we were just having some fun and no one was being mean or obnoxious. but if it hit the wrong nerve - well, you let it be known and everyone came back and explained. this group is the best group of people i have found on the internet in the last 8yrs or so... - please don't feel hurt or offended. we were just being d*cks!

ReplyDeleteyer sista

ReplyDeleteI have learned to hit that follower button, believe me.. No, I mean overall does your group keep canned goods or just the buckets with mylar.
