The Kindle

My shame now in check, head held low, I now announce the arrival of my new Kindle.

With a wi-fi connection this sucker is fast. Surprised the heck out of me. I used it yesterday while I waited for Little Bit to eat her breakfast. It downloaded a novel in seconds. Easy to read, simple instructions.

It will never replace my beloved traditional books, but I must admit with this mini-depression, and with my tight fisted spending habits, a two dollar downloaded novel makes since to me. Highly recommended.

  2. There are TONS of free books & collections of short stories on Amazon. Lots of 99-cent specials, too. All you have to do is look around in their Kindle store.

So you're saving money, increasing efficiency, and saving valuable storage space at home. Sounds like a responsible, manly thing to me.

    Leastways, that's MY story.

  3. if you sign up at jungle-search they send you an email list of free kindle books. These are not the free classics. I have had my Kindle since May 2011 and I only read two genres. I have over 450 books on mine and have only paid for 7 of them for a total expense of $36. I also have only managed to read 153 books so far. I love my Kindle and can't imagine being without it, although I was a reluctant convert.

  4. Duke, my good friend, bite me.

Rev. Paul, thank you kind Sir, and I agree, it is a manly thing to me too.

Tricia, great advice. Thank you. I will take your advice.

  6. Matt, truthfully, I don't believe so, but I'm not completely sure. It did have a blog download, which I haven't tried. Newspapers, magazines and such.

  7. I'd ask if it came with a purse, but I think you would call it an "European Shoulder Satchel."

Either way, load it up and have fun. The box looks like you could make a nice Faraday cage for it when you aren't using it.

  8. I got the poor man version the Sony e-reader last Christmas. Read a lot of books on it. Now that I need reading glasses, it's nice to be able to just enlarge the text and leave the glasses behind.

  11. Mudbuy, I call it my 'possibles' bag.

Sixbears, Like you I need reading glasses, you're correct, the ability to adjust the type is very nice indeed. Thanks.

Lila, sweet lady, I have as yet to find the email but in truth I haven't explored all its features.

Arsenius, please reference my reply to my good friend, Duke, above....I need to have a few words with Jacked Up Glock Mom as she started the 'metro-sexual' mess. Insert silly smiley face here.

  12. Congrats, personally I wouldn't know what I would do without mine. Living off grid this things is sweet. It allows me to have as many books as I want, and not have to worry on were I am going to store them. And the battery life is amazing. Run up to the local truck-stop, and I can download my books, and read for three weeks before I plug into the solar panels!

  13. I've considered a Kindle but have found the 1 dollar library card to be a better investment in this depressed time. I'm working through the fiction section now, alphabeticly.

  14. Stephen, oh Stephen. Why is it you keep bringing this up like you're trying to draw me to the dark side?

  15. KingAzJay, so far I'm liking this little toy...it's handy for sure. Thanks for the comment and please, hang around.

Dean Carder, good for you. That one dollar library card is a smart move on your part. I understand, I too watch my pennies. Thanks.

45er, you know you want one, go ahead, take the plunge, it's waiting....the dark side waits....

  17. I'm so glad you got you an e-reader. You will enjoy it. Its nice to have a library at home that you treasure. But I like to have mine with me on trips and when I need to look up something--and when I don't want to tote the books. They should have came out with this years ago! Hey, welcome to technology not wasted! It holds a lot of books and do you have a SD card--even more! Have fun!
