Next week I will purchase a .22 Crickett for Little Bit. My friends and I have plans for Independence Day; a cookout and range time to sling lead at various objects and targets. We're lucky as we have a private range.
Since my grandchild is now six years old I feel it's high time she learn basic rifle handling techniques and weapons safety. I was far younger when my father gave me my first firearm; didn't hurt me a bit.
One of my best friends has two little boys, the oldest of which will also take our safety course, it'll give him and Little Bit a chance to burn a few holes in a soda can. They should have fun.
That's a great idea. Teach them young. Any problems with other family members thinking this is a bad idea? Seems lately firearms are like mushrooms, you either love 'em or you hate 'em.
ReplyDeleteLol Santa got Bug (9-yr-old) a sweet 10/22 this past year. Pink stock and bull barrel. It is a little heavy for her but with care will last her whole life. We had some family outrage but who cares.
ReplyDeleteYes, it will be fun. Since his birthday is the day before our cookout, like yourself, I will go get his next week too. Don't see the need in a BB gun when they cost the same as a cricket rifle and they're sized for youth. Teach them young and right and there wont be any problems. I can smell that grill cooking right now.
ReplyDeleteSharon, no most of my family is a rabid as I about our Second Amendment rights, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteLila, I keep changing my mind on the pink versus a standard stock for the Crickett. Little Bit will outgrow the rifle one day and I can then pass it down to her little brother (he's now eight months) and boys, as you well know, aren't too hip on pink. And yet, it will be her rifle and it will give me an excuse to purchase another.
Joe, can't wait. It should be fun, weather permitting.
Thanks to all for taking the time to comment.
Great investment ...in fun for her right now and in building values that will last a lifetime. We bought a Crickett two years ago. We have a great niece that spends a significant amount of time with us most summers and two grandsons a year or two behind her. We bought the stand black composite stock too, but now that there is an 8 month old granddaughter in the picture, my husband is itching to buy a pink one for her. I suggested we at least wait until she's walking. We'll see how long that stalls him. Ha!
ReplyDeleteHossBoss, first let me again thank you for your tutorial on picture placement, as you can see it worked. I agree, teaching children at an early age in the proper handling and safety of firearms is very important which indeed leads to those values in life missing in most inner core children of this nation.
ReplyDeleteThink I will purchase the pink stock version for Little Bit.
